Who leaves with Monty?

My daughter graduating high school in a few weeks as well, going local until she figures out what she wants to do as well. She just won a state championship in tennis - one proud papa here!

I think I may have messed up Lake, your daughter changing careers?
No you were right Blazin she graduated in 2009 and is just getting started

Still, congrats and it's even more special that you were a big part of helping her get there. Did you see that 60mins interview with those brothers that play tennis doubles professionally? I think it was on about 2 months back. If you follow tennis you probably know who I'm talking about. Good interview.

Yeah, Bryan brothers, good guys and so is their Dad - has his head on straight. And thanks, something I'll treasure rest of my days.

From what I understand they pretty much saved professional doubles tennis. Their dad did seem like a character.

My daughter is leaning toward nursing and a BSN or PA, given this economy gotta have a very good idea of what you want to do or college can be time and money ill spent. Not like when I graduated back in late 70's, a degree would get you at least a nice entry level position, plus the most I ever paid was $150 per semester, including books! Hard to imagine

Or does nobody leave? I don't think Dean would go unless to become a head coach. But maybe some newer coaches like Conales, Bayno or Prunty?
HCP I don't see dean leaving either unless he gets a gig as a head coach in either the NBA or college. Canales has limited value at this point in time, but I think Bayno and Prunty are definite possibilities

Hey Lake, if Nate left or was replaced, do you have a wild guess as to a likely replacement?

I usually don't respond to rookies with under 2000 posts, BUT, I'm feeling generous. What worries me is if Bayno leaves. Monty, Canales and Bayno are the "hands on" coaches. Bangin' and spending 1 on 1 time with the guys. Prunty is great, but is a little more hands off/X's and O's.

I don't think I would consider Canales anywhere near what Bayno and Monty do and did from a hands on perspective. I do agree with you that if both of those two were gone we would be in a world of hurt. Prunty and Dean are very similiar, so whoever they would bring in needs to have an inate ability to work closely with the players, someone they look up to. I don't know how much of a coach they would need to be, I would look more to an ex-player, someone like a Brian Grant or in that mold.

It's a very real possibility. What are Nate's coaching commitments this summer with Team USA? Nothing right? He might be busier then he thought.

On a related note, Maucie Lucas should have a job with the Blazers for as long as he wants one. Love the guy. True class. But he needs help. We need an additional big man coach. We've needed one for over a year now. Bayno is a good coach but putting him in big foam pads and having push our bigs around isn't the same as someone who's played the position.

That is a great question, honestly I don't know. I think whomever it is needs to be a better x's and o's coach than Nate. I think Nate has taken this team as far as he can, very similiar to where he got Seattle but I would like to see a very experienced head coach that knows how to adjust the team according to the game. No matter the talent we are very one dimensional, that needs to change and we need better flow

Who hijacked this tennis thread? We were talking tennis and then HCP comes along and changes the subject.

What in the world? Wow, great to see you, Lake.

I love Monty, but he's the enemy now. I don't think we give him anyone, unless we can replace that person with an upgrade.

Late to the party, but Welcome LakeBlazer! I'm sure you'll find that many people around here are happy to welcome new members.

Since Prunty's generally behind the scenes, what exactly is his function on the staff? It seems that his background is very similar to Kaleb's (plus about 10 years). Is he a hands-on coach like Lucas or Bayno, or able to help Nate with X&O stuff?

More hands on. Workin up a sweat with the guys. And quit using my threads to welcome these rookies to the S2 party!

Denny says my pay depends on being nice to the rookies.

So we're left with Dean (hands-on), Prunty (hands-on), Bayno (who I guess has coaching chops), Kaleb and ??. Not a lot of help for Nate, either in-game or in planning.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Travis Outlaw join Monty in New Orleans.

Dean is NOT hands on at all.

"I feel like David and Emeka [Okafor] got a lot of flak for giving up a lot of paint points and post points this year. I don't think all of that is on their shoulders," Williams said. "I think our guards and wings have to help them hold the paint down."

So the Hornets hired Nate? That is a Nate quote the whole way, so is the empty promise of running.

The Nate quote was "we want to be uptempo while minimizing turnovers". :)

Agreed. I posted that very thought in another thread or another forum--I can't remember which. NOH badly needs bench scoring and some athleticism to take advantage of Paul's ability to run the fast break.

Here's the money quote from Monty for me:

"In Portland, we were always trying to get [a top] point guard, and then we got Andre Miller last year and I realized how much easier the game can be when you have an elite point guard running your team," Williams said.

Good luck, Monty. I think he's going to be one hell of a coach. NO made a great choice.
