I thought Tom Hiddleston had been listed as a frontrunner at some point in the past couple years as well.

Cavill has been my choice ever since Man from U.N.C.L.E. He'd be a perfect Bond.

There were rumours quite a few years ago that Matthew Perry was also in consideration, which in hindsight seems insane.
 
They could do a spinoff with Lynch if they wanted to. I don't think they need to gender swap the Bond character to make it happen.

Elba would be good. Cavill is a little overexposed, not sure if he'd want to be tied to making these longwinded Bond films as he's got a lot of other things going on. Same with Tom Hardy.

I don't care very much.

I'll go with Ethan Hawke because there is no finer actor today.
Personally, my favorite candidate is Idris Elba. His personality and physique is perfect for the role.
Robert Downey Jr. might be pretty damned good.

Some of those are really not good choices, but especially Cillian Murphy. There's no way to make that face come off as a good guy. Besides the character he played in the Christian Bale Batman series, he looks like a combo of Toht and Robocob AFTER he was made Robocop.

As for Taron Egerton, I like him in the Kingsmen role, and wish they'd expand that. Can't say he's too short (Daniel Craig was only 5'10"), but he doesn't look intimidating. Kinda like Pierce Brosnan, just can't take that body seriously.

I agree, I can't really see Cillian Murphy as anything but a villain. Funny enough, he was very nearly Batman. He and Bale were the finalists for the role.

They are doing another Kingsman. Egerton does the spy in a suit well.
