Who starts at Center?

Scoring wasn't a problem with this team in the preseason so I wouldn't be concerned with dribble drive or anyother offensive sets... yet. Give the team 5 meaningful games to see where they are at.

i sort of agree... but we go through stretches where the offense is so STAGNANT!!! (excuse the spelling if its wrong) hehe ... and im not even goin to mention the celtics games where vince sat out :/

A couple of points--not sure this is the right thread for it, but whatever.

(1) Each game this season, the Nets played a team that had played more preseason games. So they have been at a disadvantage.
(2) turnovers in the preseason and early in the season are very common. I believe that last year, the Nets were averaging over 20 turnovers a game after two weeks or so of the regular season.
(3) Due to injuries and limited minutes for Vince, it isn't rational to take much from the performance of the offense this preseason. Players like Gill, Hodge, Hassell, Hamilton received way more minutes than they will get in the regular season, and players like Boone, Vince, and Najera got way less.
(4) Heck, forget about the offense. Is it any wonder the defense was erratic?

This team will be fine. They may get off to a slow start, but I have them pencilled in for in the high 30s in wins.

well im with u dumpy... i really believe that they will make the playoffs :/

even the 8th seed... i dont care... playoff games are just a different atmosphere :)

Ah, playoffs at the Meadowlands...10% of the crowd cheering instead of the usual 2%.

yea I read that article that said Boone will start but it isnt set in stone yet..Lopez has a chance at starting on opening night...i hope so because he deserves it...Boone has been out with health problems so he should work his way back but he has to earn it first tho. Lopez should be our starting Center right now

No matter who starts tonight, Lopez is a starter and Boone is a backup.

If it were the other way around there would be no discussion about it.

I wouldn't worry about this too much. The Wizards are extremely weak down low.

this isn't a knock on Boone. He was an awesome pick; for a 20-something, his production is exceptional. We've gone through this before; nearly two-thirds of non-lottery big men (not even counting those taken in the last half of the second round) are out of the league by the time their rookie contract is up.

He will just dominate backup centers--and, in the event Brook gets injured, he'll be able to step right in without becoming a weakness.

Sure. Nothing wrong with having good depth.

Boone also has trade value. That's almost unheard of amongst recent Nets bench players.

Still, he isn't good enough to justify shooting under 50% from the line, so he better be in the 60% range if he wants to play big minutes.

Boone demonstrated three weaknesses:

(1) foul shooting.
(2) no range whatsoever.
(3) his tendency to get frustrated after making a mistake, stop, and curse at himself--while the play was still going on.

(1) Last year, in Nov/Dec/Jan, his FT%s were 18%/28%/41%.
After that point, he hit over 50%: 60% in February, and 58% in March (he only attempted 2 FTs in April, so we'll ignore that). He made improvement, and can hit 60% over the course of the season.

(2) before he got injured this preseason, we saw him attempt and hit a mid-range jumper . . . keep those fingers crossed.

(3) This one is all on him.

He has no low post game, either. I thought he would be a better shot blocker and help defender than he is. He still makes way too many mistakes defensively - especially considering how intelligent he is.

On the plus side, he is a fantastic rebounder on both ends, he is much more enthusiastic and competitive than he was in college, he works extremely hard and hustles every minute he's on the floor, he's improved his hands and he is a solid finisher on the pick and roll.

He's a good bench guy, which is what they drafted him to be and all anyone expected of him.

No matter who starts the good news is we look pretty solid at the 5 spot. Lopez and Boone should be anchoring the middle for the foreseeable future and doing a good job.

Production from PF and SF are the areas that can be an adventure night in and night out.

Believe me, I was at all of the playoff home games in the Finals years...the Staples center was just as loud yesterday and it was just game one of the regular season. GMJ quoted me in that FAIL thread saying that the crowd at the Meadowlands is one of the worst in the league. I stand by that statement.
