Who's our best athlete? (1 Viewer)

Dame is a great athlete but he can't guard a Lebron like Chief, Mo or ET can...not even close...and he's not particulary fast in my view..he is very, very good at playing within his skill set though and an incredible shooter under pressure

This is just silly... Really silly...

Dame can't guard LeBron because of size not athleticism...

Not particularly fast?

Wow... He's easily the quickest and fastest on the team...

If you think: "he's not particulary fast in my view.. "

Then I'm done debating you on this now... I won't waste time trying to convince you.

You literally just asserted that Dame may not be as athletic as Evan Turner...

Yeah...

you need to learn the difference between having a difference of opinion and a debate...you're welcome to your opinion..and I'm welcome to disagree..what I won't do is post condescending references to your opinion...and I wasn't debating with you...simply disagreeing and pointing out why...somehow you have a need to get defensive about it when actually dviss….that's not what these discussions are about. be done with my opinion all you want...I will still read yours and respond with my view whether it echoes mine or not

Dame is probably the team’s best athlete. His size is really the only thing that takes away from that. I don’t think the Blazers have really a ‘freak’ athlete in terms of NBA athleticism.

I put Aminu on the list because, of Length, size and mobility. He’s got a lot of those things. He’s fairly quick when taking those things into consideration.
The fact is the title probably belongs to Dame.

Sigh.... All you're doing is giving opinions and debating them as fact...

It's your opinion that chief is athletic. It's mine that he's not.

We're debating opinions and I'm done debating mine with yours.

Simple. Thicken your skin.

At least I have the valid reason of you thinking Dame isn't as athletic as Evan Turner to use to end the debate about... Opinions...

In your opinion how do we measure athleticism?
Is it explosiveness? Size? Strength? Quickness? Lateral movement? Hand eye coordination? Something else?
A combination of all of those things (and maybe more)?

Just asking as how we subjectively determine who is athletic will more than likely dictate where we all land on the answer of who we think is the most athletic.

It doesn’t seem like a big leap to me that someone might look at Aminu and think he’s not very athletic. I could also see someone look at him and think we’ll he’s fairly athletic.

no bro...I'm talking about the subject...you are talking about being done with me....you say eye test yet I'm not supposed to use my eye test...double standard..my skin is thick enough...you are always saying you're done talking to someone...well...walk that walk bro or discuss the thread topic in a civil manner...there are very fast point guards in the league and to me Dame is not that fast..he is smart though and I'm not dissing Dame...Bazz was much faster than Dame last season and Baldwin is probably faster this season...have the conversations or make them unpleasant..choices... for the record I never put ET in the conversation either

IMO athleticism is a combination of all movement.

Aminu... I watch all of his movements.

He doesn't blow by anyone. He doesn't jump over anyone. He is athletically average IMO. He doesn't even move quicker laterally than Dame. He's just longer.

You said Evan Turner was more athletic than Dame...

And you used your eye test to arrive at that conclusion.

If that's your stance then there's no reason for us to debate that.

I'll never get that time back.

Edit: you said

"you are talking about being done with me..."

No, just about this subject, in this thread.

Fair enough. Dame is by far the quickest on the team including lateral movement. To me the only thing that really holds him back is size / length. -that’s not meant as a dig at him.

Honestly when I think about it I have a hard time thinking of a Current Blazer that blows me away Athletically. Dames probably the closest.

How do you feel about Zach, he’s not that yet but 20lbs of muscle on that frame seems like he’s a good athlete.

You said Evan Turner was more athletic than Dame...
no....I said he Mo and Chief defended Lebron and the best players better...I said Chief was more athletic than he gets credit for...context..I had Mo first and and Layman as considerations for most athletic...which is only my opinion...yours is Dame.....it's that simple

Watching a reel of the best chasedown blocks in the NBA last season and it occurred to me that we're unlikely to feature (except on the receiving end). Who's our best athlete? Harkless maybe?

Harkless or Collins

I'm scouting reports, I generally see scouts view these as seperate things:
Athleticism
Agility
Coordination (footwork, shiftiness, etc.)
Strength
Length/Size
Motor/Hustle

Athleticism and explosiveness mean almost the same thing to me. How fast can one accelerate/ decelerate, how high/quick can one jump, how fast can the change direction, and how fast can they move laterally/diagonally.

Not being able to guard LeBron is due to size and strength. Those are seperate things.

Given this criteria, Dame is the most athletic by far. Aminu nor Turner are really athletic in general. (Aminu is a good defender because he IS somewhat athletic for his size/length, has a good motor, and is a smart defender. Same with Zach.)

After watching his highlights I'm putting Wade Baldwin IV in the conversation...dude is a freak on both sides of the ball

Yeah he deserves it as well.

His wingspan makes him look more athletic when he jumps though.

35 posts in, and someone finally asks for the definition of athletic. The OP should have set up the definition he wanted for the thread.
