Whatever you want to do, todays roster is in no way at the talent level.

Just talking about the rosters.....whose on what team. Bro, our current bench that people are hyped about has quite a few G leaguers. CJ was on that team and not on the current squad. Ant is on both. Whiteside was our BACKUP. You should be comparing Hassan vs Eubanks right?

Nurk was out for most of that year. I don't think he even came back until the bubble.

This is what I'm talking about though. That's gotta be one of the hardest rosters to compare to because there was like three different versions of the team.

Version 1 - start of the season before Collins and Hood was injured. Also before trading Bazemore.

Version 2 - after the injuries and including the trade for Ariza/signing of Melo.

Version 3 - the bubble, which included Nurk and Melo, but no Ariza because he didn't play in the bubble.

There's no continuity with that team at all.

I changed my vote from Hart to Little.
Hart is the better overall player at this time IMHO; however, having Hart run the 2nd unit was the word at the end of the season. Having Little focus on defense (playing a bit bigger than Hart) has merit in a starting line-up that can score. Having better players around him should help. It doesn’t seem a significant disparity in “Who is better?”

Little gets the nod. Earn it. Hart could certainly make it too hard not to start him. Sharpe …
Yup, I think Nas should start as well.

Starters:
(Dame/Ant/Nas/Grant/Nurk)

Subs:
-Hart for Nas
-GP2 for Ant
-Winslow for Nurk

Finish quarter with:
(Dame/GP2/Hart/Winslow/Grant)

2nd quarter starters:
(Ant/GP2/Hart/Winslow/Watford)

Subs in 2nd:
-Dame for Ant
-Sharpe for GP2
-Nas for Winslow
-Grant for Watford

Lineup:
(Dame/Sharpe/Hart/Nas/Grant)

Rise and repeat for the second half. To close games, replace Sharpe with Ant and decide between Hart/Nas/Nurk on who the 5th guy should be depending on matchups.

I think with this breakdown, you can see a minute distribution like this:

Dame - 32
Ant - 32
Grant - 32
Hart - 30
Nurk - 28
Nas - 28
GP2- 20
Winslow - 14
Watford - 14
Sharpe - 12

That Dame/GP2/Hart/Winslow/Grant is gonna get killed on the boards. Doesn't matter how good GP2/Hart/JW are defensively if they can't get rebounds.

I think Dame is the first dude off the floor in the first quarter. I think you let Ant stay on and play the point while Dame gets a blow.

ugh I know... tell me again why GP2 made sense??? If we got a good rebounding big instead, the roster would be so much more balanced.

GP2 makes more sense when you watch what we did in the summer league. That's clearly the brand of defense that we want to play. I think Chauncey/Joe are going to continue to trade out and bring in guys who are willing to buy into that style of basketball. But honestly, the biggest threat to that scheme on offense and defense is.... Dame.

Payton rebounds like a good rebounding forward...
true, as does Hart. Let's see how this turns out. Winslow is not a bad rebounder either. And you can hope Walker enters the rotation someway/somehow. It's just JG who is awful in that.

Grant , to me, is the one guy who has to prove himself.
I'm worried that Grant is going to get star treatment and be allowed to play at a less-than-100% effort that is expected of a role player.
Chauncey needs be able to sit his ass down if that's what's needed.

And it won't get better if we throw a huge extension to him.

Career TRB/100 averages:
GP2: 9.3
Hart: 10.0
JW: 9.9
JG: 7.4

I guess if a 5th person in that group is around the same level as GP/Hart/JW, then that group could be league average at rebounding. Put Dame in there though...not a chance.

i was listening to a podcast with Andrew Wiggins (and Iggy/ET) and they were talking about his rebounding in the playoffs. Wiggins was shocked at how poor he was before and how he said he's never gonna average only 4 a game. Wiggins is shockingly worse for his career than Grant.

Let's hope Jerami has a similar epiphany with us.

2020 Ant vs. 2023 Ant are very different players.

Also, I suspect we will see a lot more Watford at backup C on small-ball - so it will likely be either Watford or Eubanks vs. Hassan - and if the Blazers are going to play trapping small ball defense - either one of these is an upgrade over Hassan, different if you play drop coverage etc, but does not look like this is the plan for the new coaching staff.

I would say that the 2019-2020 roster was probably more talented offensively but really unbalanced, it had good back-court, good traditional centers and questionable forwards (Melo was good offensively, not so much defensively).

This years roster is much more talented defensively and a little more balanced. It still has a good back-count but with improved back-court defense, a small downgrade on the traditional center backups but better modern NBA, switchable small ball centers and upgraded forward rotation.

I would say that given what the new coaching staff wants to play, this roster is more talented, even if individually, it might not be.

Yeah with those 4 players, you don't really need a PG, but you could add Watford who could help bring the ball up the court and is a decent rebounder.
Especially if he continues to develop his 3 pt shot. It looked good yesterday.

I think the potential parallels between the two are significant. Grant's impact on this team is going to be completely dependent upon his mentality.

Since I can't look up TRB/100 for Jabari Walker:

Career TRB%
GP2: 10.6
Hart: 11.2
Winslow: 10.9
Grant: 8.2
Walker: 21

I think Bari is the dude who is gonna need to get some burn with that unit.

If I'm not looking at career, these guys recently had better RB%
Winslow 14.7 with the Clips
Hart 12.8 with the Pelicans
GP2 had 14.6 with the Warriors in 2020-2021.

Grant has been horrible though. 6.9% last season with Detroit.

I think he will start, based on the pick-up of GP2. They seem to be penciling in Hart at SF. But I don't buy your behind-the-scenes theory for a 23-year player who just got paid. A seasoned Vet who had other options to sign with....sure. But I just don't believe that any promises were made to Ant or his agent. Regardless he is going to get big minutes and it looks like he will start.

There probably wasn't a verbal promise he'd start. $110m was the promise he'd start.

You don't sign a guy for $27m/year to come off the bench the following season. Might as well write your own pink slip at that point.

I'd gladly wager with you that a healthy Ant is starting in January. Do you want to take the other end of that bet? I didn't think so.
Honest question... what in the fuck is wrong with you? So sorry that you can't handle the fact that someone disagrees with you. Pretty sad act

I'm all good over here. Not upset at you at all; I don't even feel the need to curse at you. Sorry I upset you though, that was not my intention.

Let's get back to discussing if you really think Ant won't be starting in January to stay on topic. I'm all good with different viewpoints. Many posters have made great points that have opened my eyes on issues.

How dare you. How dare you sir. How….dare….. you.

Do you normally insult people a few times and then act surprised when they're insulted?

I gave my 2 cents on the thread topic, whatever dude

Yeah, I got myself all confused, combining both years. Just call me an idiot and forget I said anything...
Dammit. Fooled me!

But imagine what could have been with continuity!

Looking at that roster injury free and it def. begs to question how far they could have really gone.
I think that roster at full strength, with a healthy Collins, Nurk, Hood, and Ariza could have beaten LA. Although that was the year Kobe died and the refs seemed determined to hand them the trophy.

I don't keep track of those metrics. I still don't even see where personally insulted you. I try to treat everyone the same and over many years, only a very select few seem to get upset by it; which might explain why I was surprised. I apologized, genuinely, in hopes we could move this thread back to basketball (and Ant starting).

To be fair, I'm unlikely to change my posting style, so if you feel its best to block me, I would understand.
