Who's the missing piece?

Melo's teams have never been sub .500, and they've been 50 game winners enough. He's proven to be a 30 PPG scorer (contender for scoring title) if the team asks him to.

There's more to the game than scoring, which is why he's never put up the PER that Roy did in 2008-09 and why his PER isn't much higher than Aldridge's (identical in 2008-09).

I think we all understand the fallacy of judging individual players by team records. But if you'd like to compare team records to determine who was better between Derrick Rose and Steve Blake last season, be my guest. ;)

I think that as a raw, talented basketball player - 'Melo might be a better player than Roy. Where he fails - is that he just does not have the basketball IQ and raw determination that Roy exhibit nor is he close in his leadership abilities. 'Melo is an athletic freak - the only reason we do not speak about it all the time is because LeBron is an active player in this league.

If there are guys that are close in talent - I will take the smarter basketball player every time even if the other guy is more dominant in some flashy category or another - but 'Melo is a fantastic talent and once he actually matured a bit and had a veteran keeping him in line - he flourished this year - even if his PER and offensive production have not shown it.

LMA is not as good a player as Carmelo is now - nor can he take over a game the way Carmelo can - but when I think LMA has a good chance of catching up to 'Melo is with his defensive play - he can be a great 2nd option on offense and a monster on defense - and I think we are slowly starting to see it emerge.

Spot on.

Bottom line.... Don't waste too much time with this fantasy. But I agree, he would be the final piece.

What if we offered them Martell Webster and the rights to Jarrett Jack? Turnabout is fair play, right?
