Gov. Ron DeSantis announces the state of Florida's lawsuit against FDA

Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference Wednesday in Polk County, where he announced that the state of Florida has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

In Lakeland, he spoke on the prices of prescriptions, and the attempt to make them more affordable for Florida residents.

DeSantis says the state filed to get drugs imported from Canada two years ago to make the cost of prescriptions cheaper, but he claims the FDA has been delayed over 630 days in approving the Canadian Prescription Drug Importation Program.

According to DeSantis, the Agency for Health Care Administration submitted the plan to the FDA to import medications from Canada, and he says the AHCA is still waiting on approval.

"It's hard to even meet with people of the FDA. Very dismissive, you know, very arrogant with how they've gone about this stuff, but our view is we need to keep pressing forward," DeSantis said at a news conference.

“Today, we filed litigation to force the FDA to accept our medication importation proposal. This action will save Florida $150 million a year," Attorney General Ashley Moody said.

"They have unlawfully and unreasonably delayed approval of Florida's program, and we think this violates federal law," DeSantis said.

According to DeSantis, the lawsuit asks the judge to approve Florida's program and order the end of the FDA's delay.

"The clock's been ticking. We have a right to know what the FDA has been doing the last two years," DeSantis said.

The AHCA is working on price negotiation for medications that can't be imported due to ineligibility, according to DeSantis.

BTW, in case you weren't aware, Mark Cuban has started his own prescription drug company claiming huge cost savings:

Trust run by Gavin Newsom's in-laws gave money to Ron DeSantis this year, records show

A trust run by the parents of CaliforniaGov. Gavin Newsom's wife donated to one of their son-in-law's biggest political rivals, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to contribution records reviewed by SFGATE.

.........A single $5,000 donation is a relative drop-in-the-bucket in such elections — the top donation to the Friends of DeSantis PAC so far is $10 million, according to Transparency USA — but conservative pundits were quick to mock Newsom, who has taken to sniping at DeSantis on Twitter in recent months for policies the Florida governor has enacted in his state.

"[With] this new contribution revelation from his in-laws, I think it’s safe to say Thanksgiving is going to be very awkward this year," Fox News Commentator Tomi Lahren said Thursday on her radio show. "Gavin’s in-laws have good taste. Their daughter, not so much."

Gavin Newsom's in-laws fled from California to Florida during the pandemic, records show

Not only did the in-laws of Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom give money to one of his biggest political foes; they fled from his state during the pandemic.

Kenneth F. Siebel Jr. and Judith A. Siebel, parents of Newsom's wife Jennifer Siebel and longtime California residents, became Florida residents in 2020 after purchasing a $3.3 million Naples home in March of that year, records show. The Siebels appear to still have ownership of their California home in northern San Francisco suburb of Ross.

Newsom's in-laws, however, officially became registered voters in the Sunshine State as of June 2020. Kenneth Siebel is a registered Republican while Judith Siebel has no party affiliation.

The voter registration shift occurred as their son-in-law enacted some of the country's strictest COVID lockdowns, which have widely been juxtaposed to the lack of restrictions in red states like Florida.

It’s almost as if in some families people have their own thoughts and opinions

@ABM

Would you lick the brown star on Desantis for 10 minutes straight if it meant he would get elected in 2024?
