Cats don't bark. What kind of dumbfuck thinks that?

Why DeSantis and not Abbott? Texas is a bigger state. Abbott hates gays and immigrants. The idea of shipping immigrants around was originally his. Texas' anti-woman law is more stringent than Florida. Voter suppress stricter. Texas has banned even more books than Florida.
So what does DeSantis have over Abbott?

One seemingly has visions of being president and the other doesn't ... this isn't rocket science!

A more vocal group of white supremacist supporters? That'd be my guess.

There is a crisis down here, has been since I've been here and quite honestly, a lot longer than that.....

Here's what Politico, a left-leaning website. has reported (from the Senate Republican Conference) regarding the Biden Administration's effectiveness at our borders:

BIDEN’S BORDER CRISIS IS THE WORST IN AMERICAN HISTORY
HIS POLICIES CONTINUE TO MAKE IT WORSE

Oh, and here's a fun graph...

What impact did those stunts have on any real progress of fixing the problem? Everyone has known it's an issue for decades, so what good did it do to ship those people half way across the country as a 'gotcha' moment? Sorry man, I try real hard not to pile on because you get it enough from everyone else here but Abbott and DeSantis need to take the big L on those moves.

Because it's bringing the whole situation back into keen focus right before the mid-terms. Let's see how it all pans out. None of those 50 are being mistreated as far as I know. Probably doing much better than they would be in San Antonio, or wherever.

Bark all you'd like, call it a stunt....I don't really care. There really are some more pressing needs on our southern border, and I believe DeSantis is forcing some issues. While political affiliation had much to do in this recent poll, one can't truly deny that there are serious issues at our borders. Can they?

https://www.ipsos.com/en-us/news-polls/npr-immigration-perceptions-august-2022

Washington, DC, August 18, 2022 – Over half of American adults believe it is either completely or somewhat true that the U.S. is experiencing an invasion at the southern border, according to a new NPR/Ipsos poll. Moreover, half believe there is at least some truth to the view that migrants bringing fentanyl and other illegal drugs over the southern border are responsible for the increases of overdoses in the U.S. These statements, and others like them that were tested in this survey, shed light on how misleading information or politically charged rhetoric about immigration has taken root among a significant portion of the American public. Overall, perceptions about immigrants and immigration policy depend heavily not only on one’s party affiliation, but also their media consumption habits.....
Florida doesn't even have a border.

@Phatguysrule I know you are big on the Population bomb theory.

What are your thoughts on if the USA strategically lets a lot of people come here through the border as a means to try to combat that?
I don't think we have a big problem with the population bomb in the US unless millennials refuse to have kids...

I think immigration could be a good way to shore things up for the 15-20 years until those kids join in the workforce though.

Most of the rest of the world is screwed though.

Maybe DeSantis should focus on his own border. Coming from Cuba, there's a very dangerous immigrant crossing into Florida right now, and he's done literally nothing to stop it from happening.

I guess. If you say so.

“Back in April, Governor DeSantis said he would send illegal immigrants dumped in Florida to states like Delaware. The crisis at our border is something affecting the entire nation, including the Sunshine State," she (Florida Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez) said in the statement. "And although states do not have jurisdiction over immigration, we do have jurisdiction over the well-being of our residents. Entering the country illegally and fleeing a dictatorship to seek asylum are two different things, and misrepresenting that is offensive."

The sending of migrants to other states follows similar actions in recent months by the governors of Texas and Arizona who have filled charter buses with migrants who have arrived in their states and sent them to New York and Washington, D.C.

I think that joke went over your head at about 150 mph.

The border situation isn't going anywhere and ebbs and flows with the current events of the day. It's a constant in the sea of waves of Roe/Russia/Ian/Black Mermaids crashing on shore and dissipating. I don't think it needs to be brought up in this way, other than to distract from whatever other story is going on that they don't want people talking about.

It's not about drawing attention to immigration reform. It's about showing DeSantis can be as vicious as Trump and whipping up hate against outsiders.

What did Saint Matthew say about I was a stranger and you took me not in?

But that's not real Republican Jesus, the white one.

This is why I laugh when the Christians here try to play some moral superiority shit. They don't even follow their own religion. In reality, they are nothing more than misinformed pawns to actual fascists. Sad.

Look, folks...if DeSantis is as bad as you make him out to be, then he won't be elected to be Governor of Florida.....and certainly not for POTUS. There aren't enough of the so-called Trumpers to go around. Plus, if all goes well with the Jan 6th hearings, Mar-a-Lago, etc., Trump will become inconsequential in the political scheme of things.
Floridians voted for Trump so I wouldn't put anything past them.

I don't know if they're better but they're pretty damn good.
I'm torn on that as well. The food item that I know for a fact is 1000 times better, is California avocados over the big ass watery Florida avocados. Not even worth comparing.

It's true. Immigrants take on the jobs Americans are too lazy or "proud" to do. Instead of shipping them north for stunts to own libs, give them temporary visas, put them to work, and keep an eye on them till they become official American citizens. That's far better than using them as political pawns.

It's puzzling that places without huge illegal immigrant populations are able to fill these jobs. If we are giving out visas for working, they should be H1Bs from countries with a lot of smart tech type people like India and Asia, not places where we get an influx of cheap, uneducated manual labor from Latinx countries.

Hey, how about we put them to work building transitional housing and assisting immigrant transitions in the states with huge tracts of cheap land on the border?

You know, like Texas.

Then people seeking asylum could go to those towns, have jobs meeting the needs of other immigrants, while they are all transitioning legally.

And we could start addressing some of our worker shortage...

And we wouldn't have to run concentration camps like Nazis or treat needy people like animals in cruel pranks...

Just a thought... Probably too progressive for Democrats to get on board with though...

Which places and jobs are these in the USA? Most major cities have a decent population of immigrants, and a worker shortage is being partially blamed for inflation. I have some landscapers in my backyard right now, Im pretty sure a few of them are illegal. I dont see any problem allowing people who want to bust some ass into the country. Labor is a skill also and I sure dont have the same skill as these guys. If we actually dealt with the issue it wouldnt be hard to set up a system. Lots of other countries allow labor on some level. I lived in NZ 25ish years ago, they took in tons of Indians, Polynesians and Asians for farm work. They all got government tax IDs and paid taxes even, I believe their visa was up to a one year stay with fairly easy options for renewal.
