Gov. DeSantis signs bill to require financial literacy class for high school graduation

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Tuesday morning that will require all Florida high school students to pass a financial literacy class before graduating.

The bill, put forward by local state senator Travis Hutson, requires students to take a half-credit course in personal financial literacy and money management.

“This will provide a foundation for students to learn about the basics of money management, understanding debt, understanding how to balance a checkbook, understanding the fundamentals of investing. Any financial literacy has really been intertwined with economics courses, which you know, economics is a little bit different than financial literacy. And so we want a strong focus on economics, both micro and macro, but you want to also have standalone financial literacy,” DeSantis said.

That's the first thing that DeSantis has ever done that is even a bit sensible.

I imagine it will turn out to include a bunch of homophobic nonsense in the fine print, though. Because DeSantis.

The don't say gay and don't make white people uncomfortable laws are having exactly the affect they were intended to nationwide, as libraries are preemptively removing any books conservative white Christians might not like. Including a children's book on Islam. Anything about Nazi Holocaust. Anything remotely gay. Anything where people of color talk about their life experiences.

Make America ignorant again. Or is it still?
 
Saw that article. Basically Trump is evil but stupid and incompetent and his own stupidity sometimes stopped his evil intent. DeathSantis is smarter and focused. Totally focused on taking way civil rights and liberties. Which is why some on this board love him.

The don't say gay bill is part of hate campaign to undermine support for civil rights by proclaiming gays recruit children. Not a new argument. Used by Floridian Anita Bryant in the 1970s.
Bryant's granddaughter is about to be married ... to a woman.

Democrats only have themselves to blame for the rise of Ron DeSantis

The mercurial rise of Ron DeSantis is the Democrats’ fault.

I say this with gratitude, not regret. Absent some catastrophe, DeSantis is going to win a second term as governor of Florida this coming November and, after that, he has a fair shot of being president. This is partly because he has done an excellent job for his state. It’s also because he was unusually lucky in his enemies.

Unable to help themselves, the Democrats have aided him at every stage. They still are.

2018 was a good year for the Democratic Party, but not so good a year that the quality of its candidates didn’t matter. Had the party nominated a credible centrist in Florida’s toss-up gubernatorial race — Gwen Graham, for example — that candidate would not only have won the governor’s mansion for the Democrats for the first time in two decades, she’d have ended DeSantis’ career.

But the Democrats didn’t choose a credible centrist. They hosted a messy and divisive primary, selected the radical Andrew Gillum as their nominee, lost by 0.4 points, and set DeSantis up for a bright future. Opportunity: missed..................

DeathSantis has banned almost half the grade school math textbooks on the grounds they teach critical race theory. In grade school math. He was unable to cite a single specific example.

Anyone read Fahrenheit 451? Or has that also been banned in Florida.

I give those Defending DeSantis (or Trump etc) as much as respect as I would give DeSantis or Trump. Same people. No difference.
