My brother has a theory that since they’re playing in the same gyms over and over, you get more comfortable. And with the stands walled out, it’s a lot easier to measure where the rim is. This groove Trent is in may last. Holy shit. Is this a jinx thread?

Well if you mean sustainable as in this year i can get behind it.

But what happens when hes not in the same gyms over and over and travelling next season? When you mention it, it breaks the sustainability. So in the aspect you laid out, it itself is not sustainable.

So in conclusion, you jinxed him already with this hypothesis. Lol.

I don’t think they’re travelling next season but I hear you.

Love the self awareness developing as you type.

Right. I guess i was questioning the theory since in 2 years max we will be back to travelling NBA. But regardless, its fun to watch now and that is what matters.

I wouldn't call it a jinx. I would compare your theory to a highly touted college freshman who plays well at home, but gets the yips on the road. If the player is really that good they will gain confidence and experience and the issue will fix itself. If Trent is as good as we all hope he will gain that experience and confidence by the time the league returns to normal.

I think he's just getting an opportunity. He'll keep shooting well long term.

Hope he keeps it up. I'm guessing he will start being in team's scouting reports from now on.

is this a post from January? Gary isn’t some unknown, he’s been Portland’s best bench player for months.

As for sustainable, of course 60% shooting isn’t sustainable but he’s a great shooter, has always been a great shooter, and will always remain a great shooter. He just needed playing time.

Opportunity + Nurk = excellence

Nurk is so good for our ball movement which creates easier opportunities. Trent is taking advantage.

Just like Gary Trent Jr. from 3-pt. range... that shirt is on fiyahhh! You can just see that this kid has worked his ass off to get better & I love the swagger/confidence that he's been displaying, as of late. Looks like we've got ourselves a keeper.

haha I was just about to comment that his shirt must have come from Guy Fieri's closest because it is butt ugly. To each their own, I guess.

I know the Wes comp gets thrown around a lot, but Trent's build and game remind me more of Danny Green. Wes had some more post ability, but Trent is just 21. Ceiling is higher than both those comps.

How much of Trent's breakthrough is because Ariza stayed home? Would he have got the same opportunity? Silver linings...

Still wish Nas could be having a similar breakthrough. I wonder if the concussion threw him off or just got him out of the rotation at the wrong time. Also Mario looks sad after not playing badly at all in the warmup games.

He's between the two in height but the lightest of the three. Don't know wingspans, but I imagine Wes has the longest arms. Gary probably has the biggest vertical, though.
Wes: 220 lbs, 6'4"
Green: 215 lbs, 6'6"
Gary: 209 lbs, 6'5"

I've had the same thought. This environment is gonna help a lot of guys who are gym warriors, while hurt guys who actually rely on the crowd to get some energy. Nurk shooting 96% from the line is no accident right now I believe. Thought Dame was in the latter group until last night.

Way back when Trent was playing his rookie year summer league, Billups said Gtjr would be the steal of the second and thought he was made to succeed.

Butler did very little as expected, his first couple years in the league and was selected 30th.
Im thinking that GTjr will be a similar type player in a couple years.

See also: Warren, TJ and Porter, Michael Jr.

This has everything to do with opportunity and nothing with playing in the same gym. Warren has always been a bucket and now the Pacers need his scoring more than ever, and Porter had never topped 30 minutes in a game before and now strung three of those including a 40 minute game, together.

I think he has put in the work, he is just that confident, and just that good

Which is why Clyde Drexlers sons kicked so much ass in the NBA...;)

Not everybody's got it, but If I remember correctly Trent was twice the hustler and hard worker that Drexler was.

Just saying I think he got that work ethic from his father. Not the skills, so to speak, though work ethic helps develop skills.

It doesn't hurt that his father was an NBA player, gave him access to many things the rest of us can only dream of. I want to make it clear I'm not saying GTJr was spoiled or hasn't earned anything, just that he obviously had something in him that many people don't have. Add to that access to someone who played the sport professionally, and it's a good combo.

Trent like Dame worked very hard at their craft with desire and drive. Some people just out work most people.
