Will Camby's presence stunt Greg's growth?

I'm here to discuss basketball, Nic Batum's deliciousness and maybe Oden's growth potential, on and off court. I'm flattered that you're attracted to me, but let's stay on topic. Thanks!

late to the thread, I have a couple suggestions, or nicknames that should be implemented.
The Sebastian (Bad Ass) Express and Ben (Transient Insulter) Davis503.

I generally don't like semantic arguments, but in this case, there is some merit in the distinction between "good" and "valuable".

When a player is on the bench, whether due to injury, fouls, suspension, or whatever - they are not very valuable to their team. Hypothetically, Oden could be a valuable player...but at some point, he has to translate potential into actual production over 82 games + the play-offs.

It's rare when oldmangrouch says, "Stop it, everyone...Minstrel's right." ;)

It's a good thing then he was averaging 15pts/12reb/2blk over his last 7 games then! And he was only getting better.

Healthy Oden is better than Camby.

.

In Oden's last 8 games, he only grabbed double digit rebounds three times. I mean, man, that game against Utah, he had 9 pts, 3 rebs, and 0 blocks. Who on Utah was holding him back?

Let's go full season--he was only in double figures in 8 of 20 games (I'm not counting the HOU game where he got injured, since he only played 4 min). That's 40%. There are 54 players in the league who have had at least that many double-figure rebound games so far.

Of those, only 26 hit double figures in rebounds more frequently than Oden (more than 40% of the time). This puts Oden in the top 7% of the league in terms of achieving double-figure rebound games.

Of course, he only averaged 27 mpg in his 10+ rebound games; only one player hitting double figures at a higher rate played fewer than 30 mpg--and he's on our inactive list as well.

All this to say--Oden's a pretty damn good rebounder when healthy and out of foul trouble. If only...

I wonder if Jay Jensen can get a volume discount on crutches built for seven footers. Those can't be cheap.

No, Camby will not stunt Greg's growth. Camby will help Greg become a better player on and off the court.

Judging by the recent cell phone pics Greg took of himself, he'll be OK if his growth is stunted.

I am actually a little more hopeful he might rub off on Lamarcus a bit more than Greg. Lamarcus is very similar in build and physical tools. Teach him how you rebound at that size. Teach him how you shotblock and not get the fouls.

Agreed; if Marcus and Juwan could both stick around one more year, we might just end up having the smartest bunch of young Forwards and Centers in the league.
