Will MyLe be able to handle primary backup at Center this season?

That's funny because I remember watching Batum defend PGs with ease.

Defending PG's is usually defending someone with the ball, but defending SG you have to move faster because they move without the ball, and you have to have more toughness, because they are always fighting through picks.

On the offensive end, the height advantage will be a headache for other SGs.

They would be if Batum ever took advantage of his height. Aside from a high release point, Batum doesnt do what he should with his size on offense. He got better last season before he got worn down and damaged, hopefully this season he will bring it back.

I'm not saying Batum cant play SG, I'm just saying why put him in that position when he is better at SF. He played SG a bunch a couple seasons ago and I remember seeing the PER splits, he was significantly better at SF.

Well, you and I have very different views of Asik. I just don't think he is very good. I wouldn't trade either Wes or Leonard for Asik, let alone both. I think Lopez is so much better it's not even close. I admit, Asik had some good games, and especially some good rebounding games if you looked at stats game to game, but when you actually watch him you realize how damned lumbering he is. I would put him halfway between Lopez and Zaza

I looked at his PER and it was lower at SG.

Other than Wesley's trouble staying healthy, I'm not sure why you are in such a hurry to trade him him Mags? He generally plays up to the value of his contract, provides a level of professionalism and calm confidence that I think every team needs in a glue player and has the ability to play off of Lillard pretty nicely. I'm not saying I wouldn't trade him if the right deal came along, but I think you are undervaluing him a little bit.

I see people wanting to ditch the guy or make him a bench player. I could see it if you needed the SG spot for Batum, but you don't. The SG spot is hard to fill, and Wes is a lot better than most teams have. At both ends.

thank you.

If we trade Wesley it should be to bring in a superior starter. I would put him in a package for Monroe but I doubt the Pistons are interested.

The problem with Meyers is he is still very much a project, and if he does end up developing and eventually improves he will be off his rookie contract. Then we will need to eat up a bunch of cap room to keep him on the team because centers are always overpaid.

In the NBA of 5 or 10 years ago I think optimal team building strategies were very different; it was better to draft for upside potential. It was critical to get guys that could maybe become all-stars one day. If you got enough of them to be a contender you’d have bird rights on all of them. Most all teams except the thriftiest would go over the $1 for $1 luxury tax to retain a title contending team for a few years. It was fine to have 4 of these projects on your roster contributing very little today with the hope that a couple of them develop into near all-stars.

Now it is a different roster game. The big advantage of the draft is having players whose production exceeds their cap cost. Players are on cheaper rookie contracts for only their first 4 years, after that point they become restricted free agents and their cap cost more or less equals their production. If you find a player in the draft that in 5 years may be an all-star, well then at that time they will be paid an all-star salary. There are similar players like Josh Smith and Andre Iquodala available every off-season for all-star salaries to any team with the cap space.

Drafting projects has a big downside even if they do reach their potential. That is one reason I was very happy we took the NBA ready CJ McCollum and not Steven Adams.

Nicely explained Draco. Repped.

The more punitive the salary cap/lux tax system, the less room there is for dead wood. Even if you "win" your gamble on a kid like Lynyrd, all you may have done is develop him for somebody else.

Awesome take Draco! Yeah I suspect the way teams pick and do business will be much different. Also, the question mark players slid big time in this draft; even though their potential was much higher.

Dwight Howard was a project when he first came into the league.

I'm not sure I get this logic. Isn't it a great problem to have if you develop a player who contributes?

Dwight was well farther along than Leonard + he was the #1 pick. Also, he was 18 years old.

Edit: 19 years old

I wanted to try out the new nickname

I'm looking forward to it, but I also know MyLe playing comes with tons of frustration.

MyLe? Really? Dude, you can't be cyrus.

Still had to pay him when his rookie scale contract was up.

My point being that it's way better to have the guy be Dwight Howard and pay than to have nothing (or wasting draft picks on losers).

But Leonard isn't even close to Dwight Howard. I mean it's not even close. Plus Howard was 3 years younger when he came into the league.

So don't develop players. See if I care.

Omer Asik sucked when he first joined the Bulls. It was only through getting playing time and coaching that he turned into a decent defensive player. He still needs a ton of work on offense, but at least he can contribute. People seem to think he's worth his pay.

I don't know at all that Leonard isn't at least as good as Asik was.

Okay we wont

Just till his breakout and he proves he's a man. Once MyLe records his first double double or gets 5 blocks in a night, or elbows Garnett in the throat, that name goes away.

I'm very glad you aren't running the team.

I'm glad you aren't either. No one in this forum is capable. You think saying something like that puts you in a better form of logic? I don't think so....

OK, I guess my play on words escaped you. Perhaps, not. Anyway..
