Wonderin.....

I think, if nothing else, you have to trade Hickson out if you can. Not b/c he's not playing well or b/c I don't like him or I don't think he'll be pretty good, but b/c I don't want to kill all of our ability to upgrade the team this summer w/cap space or big trades (and for the reasons enumerated in other threads, it's just about impossible to keep him for a S&T).

We also have (if you include HIckson) the ability to trade out about 12M in expiring contracts (getting back between 9 and 15+M in players) if we so choose.

I know the plan is to keep cap flexibility, and gain another lottery pick, but it just seems cruel to let these guys go out there night after night undermanned. There has got to be an adequate PG out there, in the D-League maybe, that wouldn't be a detriment to the team every time they are called into the game. I expect the starters to stop caring really soon. I have to admit that I am pro tank, but I think this is the last season I can stomach tanking and not lose interest.

Long term JJ Hickson is NOT not the answer to play the center position for the Blazers or anyone else. JJ is a PF who plays the center position. The Blazers are foolish if they don't get something for him and just let him walk at the end of the season because there's no way the Blazers will be able to afford him. So yes I hope the Blazers will make a trade as they should make one.

Dude, that's two polls. One for what we think. Another for what we hope.

I think not.

I hope so.

Personally I want Olshey to get something of value for Hickson, but his ability to veto a trade makes me think that's unlikely, so I lean towards it not happening.

I voted absolutely yes.

Sounds like you guys all agree that the team will lean more toward setting up for a big offseason than bringing in some help for the current playoff run. Olshey will pick one or the other and I think he will make something happen. No big splash yet though.

JJ will brush his teeth tomorrow.

My hope is yes. It would be a shame to lose JJ without getting something of value.

My prediction is no.

No he won't make a trade.........

I can hope he will all day long, we just have nothing of value to trade with.

What's up with Larry sanders? Is there anyway he could ever be available? Dude has a dtrg of 95 and has been averaging around 4 blks a game. Is he anyone we should be interested in? Only downside I could see is that he's not a legit 7 footer

The "Colonel" was swattin' our shit left and right last night!

I voted absolutely yes because he absolutely should trade Hickson at the deadline

JJ should be looked at as a bench player and not a starter. He isnt our starting center or pf for the future. So im one person who doesnt want to offer a bench player over 5m a year so I say if we can get something for him then trade him.

A prospective team will probably wait until FA to pick up Hickson. Why trade for him when you can go after him during FA? Besides, they wouldn't have to give up something valuable in the process.

"Should" Hickson be traded? Yes, for the welfare of our team.

However, that wasn't the question. "Will" Olshey make a trade by the deadline? I don't think it's likely to happen.

I think the Blazers a fools if the do not trade JJ. If you don't trade him you don't get anything for him and in my opinion that's not a good move. I would think that you would get more for him if you did some 3 way trade in a package deal. I will say this again.....If Neil Olshey is gun shy then I will question Paul Allen as Allen did say Olshey is a GM with the golden gut. To me when someone says your a guy with the 'Golden Gut' that tells me that your a guy that's not afraid to take a big risk even if it means trading a fan favorite....Wesley Mathews?????? The Blazers already have there core in place so to say so we shall see what happens and if Olshey really has a golden gut.

Where's this "Golden Gut" quote? That's too descriptive to be Paul Allen quote.

It takes two to tango and I get the feeling the market on Hickson is probably pretty soft; his defensive woes are pretty plain to see, he can veto a trade, he's a pending free agent with no transferable bird rights ... If somebody really wants him they'll just wait until the summer when they don't have to surrender anything of value, and there's no way Olshey is going to take on a bad contract to ship him out and get a pick or a prospect in return.

Olshey's gut could be platinum and wouldn't matter a tinker's damn, he doesn't have much leverage (or many assets) to use this deadline. At worst he'll be able to let JJ go out and test the market and get the cap room his departure provides, it isn't much, but it's "something"

3 to tango in this case

I just looked at this thread and am surprised that you guys didn't begin with the best indicator, Olshey's history on Midseason Trade Deadline Day. Does he use the day or not?

Asst. GM
On 2/16/10, he and Dunleavy traded Marcus Camby to Portland for Steve Blake and Travis Outlaw.

On 2/17/10, they traded, with the Cavs and Wizards, Sebastian Telfair and Al Thornton to get Drew Gooden.

GM
On 2/24/11, he traded Baron Davis and a first round pick (#1-Kyrie Irving) to Cleveland for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon.

On 3/15/12, he traded Brian Cook and a 2015 #2 to Washington for Nick Young.

Conclusion: He uses the day. He will make a trade.

I am now leaning that a deal gets done.

10 days to go?
