OT Will Portland Become A War Zone This Weekend?

Antifa are anarchists under the guise of a noble cause. They just want to cause crime and are using "they are Nazis" as carte blanche to assault people and destroy property.
When I see them convey they believe in the Constitution and Democracy I will give them credit, I have yet to see them do that, at all.
When I see them burn the American flag, knowing my youngest son is being deployed next month, I have a hard time with Antifas sincere motivation.

I hate to say it, but sometimes I'm ashamed to say I was born in Portland, OR. *sigh*

You guys have the sequence of events out of whack.

The Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer wouldn't be here without ANTIFA and the protests that happened after Trump was elected. The Proud Boys are confronting ANTIFA and the Liberals in Portland BECAUSE of those protests. It's not like Portland was some quiet berg and the Proud Boys showed up. They saw the protests here and they saw an opportunity to fight ANTIFA.

There are actually some of the founding members of the Proud Boys that are from Portland.

I disagree. I don't think these groups would be here if not for ANTIFA. I think they saw the protests in Portland and they saw a great opportunity to create conflict and fight ANTIFA. You don't go fishing where there aren't any fish.

You keep saying that, but I don't find it any more convincing than saying antifa wouldn't be here if not for the neo-nazis. There does seem to be a feedback loop where each side encourages a larger response from the other, but who "started it" doesn't seem either important or knowable.

I saw some graffiti in the Vista tunnel just now that said "Sometimes Portland is ashamed of ABM, too!"

Neat story

It was beautiful graffiti, believe me. 10 or 20 feet, some say 35 or even 47 feet tall. We have the best graffiti, don't we? But the fake news won't report that. I call them the fake news, because they're fake.

If you think ANTIFA isn’t bad or are just a nuisance more than an actual domestic terrorist organization, YOU are part of the problem.

Fuck White Supremacists, Fuck the Proud Boys, Fuck real Nazis too, ANTIFA is just as bad if not worse than those fucks though in current day America. Especially in our state.

I'm embarrassed for you. Research before you regurgitate. Hell, email Rose City Antifa them and ask all your questions and see how you feel afterwards...unless you are one of those "very fine people on both sides" kinda guys.

So......after reading their manifesto, it appears that Antifa is determined to fight to the death to defend America’s right to free speech by denying the Proud boys their right to free speech. AND they even rationalize it by saying that debate (an accepted form of free speech) is not an effective tool against the Proud Boys, therefore it should not be allowed. Only by physically denying their right is the way to go. Got it. Maybe you should feel embarrassed for yourself. Because what Antifa is saying is that the only acceptable free speech is the free speech they agree with. Please tell me you can’t see the hypocrisy? I am in no way supporting the Proud Boys (or similar idiots). I only support their right to make complete fools of themselves, just as I support Antifa’s right to do the same. And I have no doubt that both groups will do an outstanding job of that this weekend.....

Sure, it's hypocritical but there is a massive asterisk attached: when confronting fascists, sometimes words aren't enough. And while I think this is part of a bigger discussion, I will say I think we've all seen what hateful language can do to a country--now and throughout history. (And give me a fucking break about debate. What a waste of time.)

Listen, I'm all for free speech, but hate speech can fuck off. Richard Spencer can get punched daily and I'm fine with it. What is most disappointing to me, actually, is that we regular people don't run the Proud Boys out of town ourselves.

Both sides are 100% ignorant cowards of no value to the future of human race.

One side was unheard of, didn't really exist as a group, and stayed home in their Vancouver, WA basements until provoked by the side being paid by country-killer George Soros to instigate violence.
Prosecute/imprison antifa along with George Soros and entire problem solved.

Neither group should press their luck as I bet the chief has instructed her force to come down hard and quick.

Fify.

Danielle Outlaw (born 1975)[1][3] currently serves as chief of police for the Portland Police Bureau, in the U.S. state of Oregon. She is the first African American woman to head the bureau,[1] and was appointed by mayor Ted Wheeler in 2017.[4] Outlaw previously worked for the Oakland Police Department, where she served as deputy chief from 2013 until 2017.

Yes well lining up on the streets every month to beat on each other and yell a lot seems like a great way to spend their time...

I find ANTIFA has always been just as hateful as the Proud boys. Just because its hating an ideology you don't agree with doesn't make it less hateful. All these protests/counter protests do, is inspire more hate.

All of these people need to be taken from Portland, sure I may “agree” more with being against Fascism, but not a single part of my being believes for a second that ANTIFA is some group of good guys just trying to help the world out by getting rid of “hate”.

You don’t get it have it your way just for your side. THATS CALLED FUCKING FACISM! That’s what’s so hilarious about these adult children you’re defending. The one smart person in the group is probably some charismatic Manson-type character who has a bunch of complete dipshits convinced they’re doing good work. It’s a joke just like any other gang. A bunch of blind followers.

That's not what facism is. And I'm not defending the people, but the tenets. Also, blind followers?!? Surely you mean the morally bankrupt that defend, actual defend, and follow this president.

I pose the same challenge to you that I posed earlier. Show me a single conservative or neo-nazi protest or riot that happened prior to the riots after Trump was elected.

The part that made no sense to me was why would people riot and/or harass a city that overwhelmingly voted against Trump in the election? It made no sense then, and it makes no sense now. All it did was bring unwanted attention to our city, and attract scummy groups like the Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer to Portland.

I'm not saying that ANTIFA wouldn't exist at all without the creation of groups like the Proud Boys, I'm saying that the Proud Boys would not be in Portland if ANTIFA wasn't here protesting first. ANTIFA created the environment that they're now supposedly counter-protesting.
