Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

PHX sends out: Okafor (PHI), Frye (POR) & a draft pick (one of their 4!)
POR sends out: Dorell Wright (PHX), Meyers Leonard (PHI)
PHI sends out: Evan Turner (PHX), Spencer Hawes (PHX)

This is a surprisingly modest and sensible suggestion! And I've been wanting to get Frye back for a while, and getting him for Wright and Leonard would be a steal. HOWEVER, the Suns seem to make out like bandits in this deal, and as I suspect that they are already going to be the team that bounces us from the playoffs in the first round, that would sting. Wouldn't we be better off getting Hawes? (And I say this as somebody who much prefers Channing the person to Hawes the person.)

Talent wise, the suns make out like complete bandits. However, it's all a one half season experiment basically. The cost for them of a draft pick is probably worth the experiment. Philly isn't going to get anything from a team w/o a guarantee that Turner will re-sign with them, and no one would make that promise to him now. Value decreasing every day.

I agree, we'd be better off with Hawes.

But Frye is the one moderately overpaid (though arguably not this year), and he has a 2 year contract. The suns would probably like reducing their payroll for next season, as they have a lot of players who will want to be paid, and not retaining Frye frees up a little more room for them.

We probably couldn't trade straight for him very easily, as we don't have any picks really. Also, we won't really have cap space next year anyways, and it's the free agency after that almost all of our players are expiring.

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

The Blazers are 7.5 games out of 9th. All Stotts and Olshey need to keep their jobs is to make the play-offs.

No deal coming anytime soon.

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

You fools talking about defense and are trying to actually make a trade to bring Channing Frye on? Jesus. That dude is and always has been garbage.

I don't give a chit if he's shooting 41% from 3 or not. He is not going to help us in the area we need help in most and that is Defense. Yuck at all these Frye trade suggestions...

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

Give me a defensive coach... That's what I'd like to trade for.

2 things:

With all due respect, is there anyone who thinks that defense has been the issue over the past three weeks?

Also, perimeter defense sure seems to be a bigger issue than interior defense, so I don't see Frye causing any extra defense problems.

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

A defensive Assistant would be good. We should have Re-Hired Nate. LOL

That is excellent humor. :D Not sure how Nate got such a reputation as a 'defensive coach' when for 80+% of his career, his teams were in the bottom half defensively.

a combination of his playing style, his defensive assistant work with team usa and not adjusting for pace i imagine

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

also, he must have some knowledge for team usa to name him the defensive coach and for the pacers to go after him. He's not being hired for his offensive game plans.

Nate is a good fit there. I always thought of him as more of a coordinator than the head guy.

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

No matter what we get at any position people will squawk that we need a player with a totally different tool set... then we will get that player and reminisce about the good ole days when we had the guy before. Then people will go crazy on the trade machine figuring our ways to re-aquire said 35+ yo messiah of old. The team doesn't land him but 2 years later they get a similar player and every one screams about how he doesn't do the thing the last guy did and goes to the trade machine....

The Circle of greener grass and how it pertains to Sports forums.

if only we could harness it for good instead of evil

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

This is dated, and I don't know if it's been posted... so apologies if it has.

One league official tells Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN (on Twitter) that Nuggets guard Andre Miller will be a member of the Timberwolves or Kings before the February trade deadline. Recently, our own Chuck Myron examined the veteran guard as a trade candidate.

Here's the link.

Not surprising given the recent hubub. Things very quiet although I did hear that the Blazers were at least making the obligatory rounds. Again, not surprising and nothing specific, just inquiries.

We need to do -something-. This team currently constructed will not get HCA, which, IMO, is imperative for any sustainability in the playoffs.

What do you suggest? Should we find a way to bring in Rip Hamilton?

I've been pretty vocal about bringing in a guy like Seraphin. He won't take a whole bunch, and has shown flashes of good ball.

I don't think Hamilton is it.

If somehow we could do a Leonard/Wright for Seraphin or something along those lines, I'd be happy.

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

Why not Chris Wilcox or Louis Amundson?

Marc Stein: Two more weeks to see whether Philly can get the first-round pick for either Evan Turner or Spencer Hawes that Sixers continue to ask for-- Twitter @ESPNSteinLine - To bad the Blazers don't have a first round pick.

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

Usually, I'd be in favor of making a deal to try to get us to that next level. However, this year so much seems to have to do with our chemistry. I'd be scared to mess with it.

seriously? would give that chem idea some credit if we were trading for a head case like the Bucks C, but not a guy like Hawes or several others, chemistry only goes so far, if this team is serious about playoff "contention" this bench badly needs to be bolstered

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

talent>chemistry. With this core we can have both, there is no knuckleheads on the roster so shouldn't hurt anything to bring one in

Talent + Chemistry is ideal. Talent > Chemistry hardly ever wins in the end.

We need a bench, though, and I don't think any of the starting 5 would be crushed too much on the floor if they got a bench (Although I'm sure personally for a bit it'd hurt... they do all seem close.)

That depends on the knucklehead. Do you have some suggestions?

Chemistry carried us through the first two months, and is now gone. It was really just a "honeymoon" phase.

Re: ~~~The "OFFICIAL" 2014 trade deadline thread~~~

You know the bench is really bad when the idea of getting Blakey back doesn't sound completely horrible to you...
