Will we have to wait for Olshey to leave before we get a backup PG?

I'm not sure there's been a year where the PG position was our biggest area of concern. We've always been a few pieces short and it appears Olshey thinks backup PG is less important than backup wing or center positions. Not to mention all the years we haven't had starting caliber forwards.

At this point, backup PG still probably 3rd in order of importance in my opinion. I would LOVE a solid backup PG who could defend and even allow Dame to play off the ball a little bit.

I think most top shelf point guards don't envision themselves playing second fiddle to Dame...Dame is like MJ....his legs need to be falling off for him to take a rest...Nobody wants to take a paycut and be the next Judd Buechler playing 4 minutes a game behind Jordan....so you end up with the Jeremy Lin's of the league who just want a job....Dragic will never come here to back up Dame for example

I don't buy that Neil doesn't get backup pt guards....Ronnie Price, Earl Watson, Mo Williams, Steve Blake, Wade Baldwin, Tim Frazier, Shabazz Napier, even Jaylen Adams in the bubble...Neil has looked for and brought in backup pt guards and CJ wasn't the last one or even a pt guard..we just let them go after a short sample size..he used Mason Plumlee, ET and to an extent Mario as distributers when we lacked a real backup pt guard...those 3 distributed the ball for a short time...Ant is supposedly being developed to play the pt guard position but he's super raw at this point.

Literally the only person that could maybe possibly be called a backup PG is mo Williams. Or Steve Blake. The rest of those are further proof to the OPs point.

We disagree....what you are alluding to is that they shouldn't be called "good" backup pt guards......my point is...they are pt guards. Not that they were keepers or even very good...I"m not saying Olsheys choices panned out for us...that's where this goes sideways...I think Price and Watson were decent backup pt guards as well...as I said earlier...we rolled the dice and came up with bupkis

We have an excellent back up point guard his last name is McCollum. CJ is a way better point guard, albeit of the score first variety, than he is a shooting guard. For the sake of injuries I guess we could have a "back up" on the roster but because it is just in case of injuries, that's what D-League players and other free agents are for.

I have one problem with Neil's rosters and that problem is starting CJ at SG and paying him so fucking much... so in essence CJ. I think he usually builds out the rest of the roster really well.

Obviously if we didn't have CJ then we would need a really good back up PG but with the minutes that Dame and CJ play it makes no sense at this time to shell out anything, even the vet min for what would be a third string PG especially if Neil feels that Ant can do that and Ant says he's working on his passing so I don't think it's Neil that has to leave to get a back up PG it's CJ.

It’s really not even hard to find a backup point guard. There are plenty out there. Not sure why this is an annual thing. Just...go get one.

Name one that's
a. Good
b. Available
c. Affordable

Since we are in the middle of a busy trade season in a shortened period and about to start FA, I am thinking everyone is "available", especially since we are talking about backups. Do you just want a list of every backup? Whether its a higher end backup - Bledsoe, Beverly, Bradley, or whatever, they are out there. Trey Burke, Quinn Cook (just waived), Yogi Ferrell, Tim Frazier again, George Hill was just traded, maybe a guy like Cory Joseph, point is, there are players out there whose job is literally to be a backup PG and thats all they will ever do. Not hard. Instead we have CJ and Anfernee and thats not working.

Too expensive. Also not good.
Too old. Too divisive. Also wouldn't want to come here.
Absolutely not a PG.
Trey Burke,
Hm. Kind of intriguing, and sort of fits the "Baby Dame" model that Olshey seems to like (Shabazz Napier, e.g.). One wonders if his performance with the Mavs earned him a big bump in pay.
Quinn Cook (just waived),
Has the Lakers stink on him.
Yogi Ferrell,
Possible. Love the name. A bit bleh though.
Tim Frazier again,
God help us.
I would argue that the last three are not as good as Jaylen Adams.

George Hill was just traded, maybe a guy like Cory Joseph,
George Hill earns $10M this year, Cory Joseph, whom I would like, earns a ridiculous $12.6M

Is rather play Trent more than a washed up vet PG, and I'd rather spend money on positions of real need than one for 12 minutes a game when we'd be just fine running C.J. as our backup PG.

The other thing is that signing this supposed big time backup PG doesn't mean Stotts is going to play him instead of the three guard rotation that I'm quite sure he is excited to play.

I think we've discovered Olshey's burner account. Or possibly Stotts'.

Serious question: is Jaylen Adams still under contract? Is he supposed to be coming back?

This is just greedy! Now they have TWO of the best backup PGs in the league:

Exactly! If Morris is leaving, please let him be coming here

I would like to have George Hill, despite his salary. Maybe we can trade Derek Jones Jr. for him in a couple of months...

It looks to me like we are rolling with CJ as the backup PG, Simons as third string.

We probably leave the 15th spot open in case its needed during the season. Maybe we sign a PG on a two way for practices or an emergency couple games? If we have a PG injury beyond a few games we probably need to sign someone or trade for one at that time.

With the depth we added at other positions I think I'm fine skipping a PG. I want to see how the current roster plays. This means guys like Trent/Hood may play SG. We can't really bring in a PG that is guaranteed minutes, so what free agent would be ok with DNP, would be ok as DameCJ backup, but would be good enough to help the team if needed? They are opposite requirements.

I do agree that passing could be a concern with this team, I guess we will see in a month's time.

When will we sign a PG?
