Simons reminds me of Marcus Mariota.

I loved Marcus when he was a Duck, but I had concerns even in college about his quiet demeaner. It's hard to be an NFL quarterback when you're such a wallflower. He's extremely talented but his personality type doesn't fit the mold.

Simons has a similar quiet demeaner. You can't be a quiet point guard. Go back and look at all the successful point guards in NBA history. The stars. They all have type A personalities. They have gravitas. I don't see gravitas from Simons. I see a quiet kid, which is funny because he and Trent are almost the same age. Trent is oozing gravitas. Dude is afraid of no man.

Um... Ant will have to earn that because right now I don't have any minutes for him. Dame 35 minutes all at PG, that leaves CJ 13 minutes at PG and like 22 at SG and 26 minutes for Gary at SG. That's it unless Ant is a completely different player, hitting his shots, finishing at the rim, passing the ball really well, he has to make a light year jump on defense... he's further out from being a contributor than Nas and I don't think Nas is playing meaningful minutes this season either.

The former Boston Celtics star has dealt with a bothersome right hip since being traded by the C's in 2017. He recently underwent another procedure on his hip, and now he claims he's 100 percent healthy.

Thomas talked with Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe about participating in pickup games last month with several NBA stars, including former Washington Wizards teammate John Wall and Brooklyn Nets stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The sessions went well for the 31-year-old.
“Those guys were like, ‘Damn, welcome back. You really look like yourself,’” Thomas told Himmelsbach. “That only gave me more confidence to be able to play the game again. I mean, I was blowing by people. I haven’t blown by anybody since I had a Celtics uniform on. When I was able to blow by MVP-caliber players, that told me my burst and power and speed are there. I really feel like I’m back."


Thomas also opened up about the difficulty of playing through the hip injury last season, and how his latest procedure will help him regain an important part of his game.

That would be my preference as well!

My minute distribution was in response to what the PG minutes would look like if Dame were hurt.

A lot of talk about Hood/Collins in that article. Neil talks the hell out of last year's roster no doubt, but injuries fucked us over.

They did have a fairly deep and talented team. You take away Collins and Hood and wait all season for Nurk and they are not as talented or deep. Bazemore was supposed to be more and as i recall it wasn't just Olshey saying that. You can find plenty of things written on this board about it.
A bunch though Simons was going to excel. Wasn't just Olshey.
Trent got better after the halfway point yes.
Do you remember Pau Gasol?
Picked up Whiteside.
How about Skal? Injury again?
I'm pretty sure i read better things about Tolliver at the beginning of the season also.
Didn't some people like the Mario Hezonja move on this board?

I know he embellishes things about players but I remember Stu Inman and other GM's doing the same. Some of the young players that come into the league now days need a lot of stroking and Neils good at that.
When gm's introduce their new acquisitions they all talk up the players. Did you hear Mo Rivers talk about Philly and his team.
 
This was supposed to be our rotation last year to start:

Dame / Ant
CJ / Bazemore / Trent
Hood / Hezonja / Little
Collins / Skal/ Tolliver
Whiteside / Gasol

I mean, 4 of the top 10 were out for a substantial period.

Regardless, the talent upgrade this year is staggering when you compare it side by side.

Dame/ Ant
CJ / Trent
Jones/ Hood / Little
Roco/Melo / Giles
Nurk / Collins/ Kanter

you guys seem to want to re-litigate last year's failures. I'm fine with that by the way

I just want to point out that what started this was Hoopguru just saying Olshey was high on Elleby and I just commented that Olshey was also high on Hezonja. HG said he didn't recall that so I simply posted some links with my usual snark

of course Olshey embellishes and spews bullshit. And of course other GM's do the same when talking about their own job perfomance. A GM who comes out during the off-season and says he put together a weak flawed roster won't have a job long, unless he's catfishing the rest of the league and his team wins it all

and yeah, Portland had injuries last year but when Olshey was praising the talent of that team it was known that Nurkic was going to miss months of the season. Thus Whiteside. And when Hood got injured, the Blazers were only 8-12 with Hood, so there were other issues than injuries. And some of us, including myself, were saying that if either Whiteside or Zach got hurt, Portland would be in trouble because there was nothing behind them on this supposed deep and talented roster.

and frankly Kj, offering what people say in this forum as a defense of what Olshey says doesn't make sense to me. Olshey is the only one of "us" that is making 3 million a year to evaluate talent and build a roster
 
To me ghost dancing about the failures of past rosters and seasons just doesn't add anything to my Blazer experience....it's all buzzkill....I'm in it to win it until it's obvious we're out of the running. I'm at the point of....Mario who? Meyers who? New landscapes....new melodies...let the good time roll....GO BLAZERS!!!!! Enjoy what you can in 2020....there's plenty of other shit to weigh you down...basketball shouldn't be one of those things in my view!
 
Everyone has their own take and feelings about the team, coaching and management, which is great. Outside of maybe 4-6 teams, the league is full of average teams and below average teams. There are only a handful of teams out of thirty that have won championships in the last 25 years.
