Will we have to wait for Olshey to leave before we get a backup PG?

The fact that Dame never sat in the second half of last night's game proved how much BS Neil has been slinging regarding our PG depth. If CJ can't go Monday, does he expect Dame to play all 48 vs the Spurs?

If oshley had some respect for dame he would get a roster that doesn't require super human lillard every night.

He is too arrogant to admit that Simons isn't the one. Shabazz would be fantastic. Plus he's already got a fucking song. He is undersized but a good defender

Olshey: "We have a backup PG."
Reality: No we don't, and a bunch of random posters on S2 were much more correct.
We do have one backup PG on the roster. He happens to be injured right now and when he's not he starts at SG. In situations like this, it shows that everyone that was saying that we needed to add a legit backup at the 1 were totally right. I think until CJ is back we will disastrously see Ant sub in for Dame around 3 or 4 minutes each half. If Stotts plays Ant any more than that he's an even worse coach than I've thought for a while now.

Still waiting. I wonder if Chauncey is as happy to go without a proper backup PG as Stotts was. Especially with Dame having abdominal problems. Maybe Mudiay is meant to be it, but that would be weird given that he doesn't play D and doesn't shoot threes.

Let's bring Evan Turner out of retirement.
I keep thinking of ET as Cade Cunningham struggles in Summer League. I don't think he'll be a bust, but if he is, ET is a good comparison of someone who could do it all in college but wasn't particularly athletic.

There is plenty of back up point guards to be had in free agency

Rajon Rondo
Goran Dragic
Jeff Teague
DJ Augustin
Jeremy Lin
Shabazz Napier

I want Jordan Clarkson
Problem is 4 of those players don't want to be a back up.
At least Jordan Clarkson is an actual backup but even he played 26 mins a game last year. You would have to step on somebody to play the guy.

Which 4 are you thinking wouldn't be OK with being a backup?

Teague? PER of 13, and his role is as a backup.
Lin? Out of the league and lucky to get back in. He'd be a backup.
DJ Augustin? 2/3rds of his career he's been a backup and his stats backup that up.
Shabazz? No question a backup.
Goran? he might be the only one who can maybe claim he's not a backup, but in reality, he's pretty much a backup at this point in his career.
Rondo? at this point, he's a backup at best.

NONE of those guys have any business saying they're a starter. They may not WANT to be one, but they're all well past their primes and in most cases, cemented in their roles as the backup.

Goran would be huge. Moves the needle.

I think this is all Olshey making sure that his favorite players don't have competition for playing time. In this case, CJ and Simons

in Dame's 1st season, Eric Maynor averaged 21 minutes after a deadline trade. The next season, Mo Williams averaged 25 minutes. The season after, AARP member Steve Blake averaged 19 minutes

but then, Olshey was able to clear the roster and give CJ dual roles, and ever since, he's refused to get a good backup PG. I think it's because he knew Stotts would give that PG minutes that Olshey felt should go to CJ and lately, Simons (Bazz and Curry are not PG's)

Olshey did the same dumbass thing when he let Aminu walk. He cleared the roster of any competent PF except for his lottery prize, Zach. That's why we had to endure a PF rotation of Melo, Tolliver, & Hezonja.

Dante Exum and Frank Nkilitina are both available (some say for good reason), and they can both defend, at least. Also you can pair them with two smaller guards because they've got size. Also...

ET couldn't shoot. Cunningham can, which is a pretty big deal when it comes to fitting into varied lineups without mucking up your team's halfcourt offense. Ben Simmons is something of a wildly athletic ET and he's the superstar that's hardest to use optimally. He basically needs a Draymond Green situation--flanked by a couple of the greatest shooters ever.

Read my statement again. Got nothing to do with what I think.
I agree with you and i also agree with @Chris Craig that Jordan Clarkson would be a good back up PG.

Yeah, I know how to read. My question remains the same. which 4 do you think think they're not backups? Because all of their roles the last few seasons has been as backups.

Zach is gone and we are still waiting for a replacement big man. Olshey is: A) clueless about roster construction, B) indifferent, C) both.

In some respects he still acts as if he is working for Sterling.

Ok so why are we talking about Jordan Clarkson? Is this because this thread was bumped from last year?
Clarkson is not a free agent....and he is about as much a PG as Anthony Simons. He is a high-volume shooter off the bench.

My response remains the same as well.

Yeah. He was a FA last season. Blazers could have used what he gives Utah off the bench. Utah of course resigned him. Blazers have been missing a force like him on the bench.

They are all back ups now basically.

I think we'll see Norm handling the ball with the bench mob a bit...we have a shit ton of 6'3 combo guards and an elite pt guard coaching....we don't need another guard...we need bigs and stretch 4s I wouldn't waste a roster spot on another guard but if we make a trade we could swap a 6'3 combo guard for a pt guard....I don't think teams are looking at pt guards and 2 guards differently any more...just guards and wings and bigs...positionless basketball.

I should know better than to start reading an old thread that has 9 pages and comment on another comment made last year about dudes that have been in and out of the league and are on the last legs of their career.
It most certainly will never end well.
None of them. Absolutely none of the them are starters any longer. Though Dragic and Rondo can fill in rather well and could work and yes Clarkson would be interesting.
I hope that clears things up.
