I think most of what Joe is doing is posturing: ‘we like our vets’ = ‘you have to pay up if you want to trade for them.’ I don’t believe for a second he wants to win next season.
I hope you're right... this half in half out shit with a rebuild is shitty.

I have no fucking clue what Joe is doing and I just hope it makes a lot more sense next season. If he moves forward with the rest of the rebuild it won't be such a blatant tank as much as we'll be the youngest team in the league and won't win a lot of games before the trade deadline and then we might see some tanking by sitting Deandre and whoever else is risking wins but young fun to watch players will still be playing.

Maybe Joe tries to get more win now vets and we struggle around .500 this season with a bullshit two timeline catastrophe. We don't realize we won't make the play-in until it's too late to tank so we finish off the season at around .450 and 12th or 13th place in the West.
Thought we were already the youngest team?

I have a hard time seeing Cooper Flagg as a franchise changing/better tank! kind of player.

He does appear to have a complete game. But is he KD or LBJ or Wemby? Probably closer to a Banchero....which is still pretty good.
I would laugh my ass off if teams tanked for him and he decided to stay a 2nd year at Duke.

well, if he was the #1 pick (likely?), he'd be giving up a guaranteed 58-60M to play a 2nd season at Duke. That's a pretty uneven scale

Sorry, guys, we won't be tanking. You need to get yourself into a head space where endless Grant isos are OK.....

Blazers Edge writers are giving every Blazer player A's and B's for post season grades.

.... lololol

Portland is packed with more talent then anyone else in the NBA. The Blazers are on the verge of championship dynasty. Just ignore that final score thingy.

Look to the fringe playoff teams for Grant, Ant, Scoot, and Brogdon destinations.

EDIT: My mistake. I meant MATISSE NOT Scoot. Maybe even Ayton as compared to Scoot. Thanks for noting it.

those numbers are for the rosters. It might be more germane to have averages of starters and rotations, but I don't know where to find those
Yeah if there was a way to weight it by minutes that would be more interesting.

Amazing OKC is 2nd youngest team and just got the #1 seed.... Not to mention their chest of picks. They could be a decade long contender.

However I do hope they try harder to win and don't have soo many scrubs that are borderline NBA players playing huge minutes for a 4th straight year. At this point since Cronin has done it EVERY single year he's been GM I think you need to expect him to do the same until we see him do something differently.
Portland is at/near the very bottom of the NBA talent floor. When their starters go down, it's only the dregs of the league because backups with options usually choose situations where they can win. Hopefully someday not too far off this same dynamic is working in their favor. Management trying to build a talented young nucleus for the next era of the team is something I fully support. By endorsing this strategy, I'm willing to be patient as I'm near certain they'll need more talent then just their current young guys to develop. Portland should go BPA in the draft every year until they give the GM a reason to think they're on to something.

Aren't rookie contacts only guaranteed for the first 2 years? He will still get paid in college so maybe he misses out on maybe 10 million by staying in school one more year. He can always play an extra year in his 30s if he is hurting for money by then.

unless a #1 pick is a total bust, he'll get the full 4-year amount; and that's true for most lottery picks. Even in the first year, the gap will be enormous. NIL might cap-out at 1-1.5M (and may be lower as that is elite level NIL for football players). 1st year rookie scale for #1 will be around 12.5M...maybe even higher. That's an 11M differential

1t year for #3 pick will be over 10M; for #5 will be well over 8M. 10th pick will be around 5.5M

so if you want to talk about the guaranteed 2 years; for the 1st pick it will approach 26M

financially, for elite players, it makes no sense at all to come back for a 2nd college season. There is also the fact that as soon as an elite player signs his rookie deal, the 4-year clock for his 2nd contract starts ticking
