Suppose the major move of the Summer is getting Kirk Hinrich. Will that be enough for you?
 
Yup. I would like that. But depends on who we give up for him. I thought he did great against Boston this year. I like him a lot.
 
Of the two options, I'm more with Y than N. But I think it would not be the optimal use of the Blake/Outlaw/IDTE combo that we could send out and basically give a team 14M in salary relief.
 
I would be happy with Blair + Heinrich, lukewarm on trading out of the draft and only getting Heinrich.
 
If we can get Capt. Kirk and a backup PF in the draft for the price of Blake or Travis and some other things with our picks - we will be in a nice place. Yes, I would be happy. It improves our #1 problem (perimeter defense against point-guards) quite significantly, offers a vet to run the offense who can play off the ball next to Roy - and add some post scoring/toughness (hopefully) when LMA is out.

This with the natural improvement I expect from Oden (1st) and all the other young ones (Rudy, Batum, JB) - would put us in a nice place to push deep into the playoffs.

Hinrich has been a target of mine for a long time, so yes, I'd be extremely happy. Not, jumping-out-of-my-chair happy, but walking-around-with-dorky-smile-on-my-face happy for at least a week.

The only 1s that I'd be happier about are Rubio, Sessions, Harris, Conley.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the IDTE can only be used on its own to acquire a player. In this case a salary of up to $2.913 mil.... it can not be combined with others players as part of the traded player exception rule for those over the cap.
 
Who are we giving up to get him? That would make a difference on how happy I am.

exactly.. if we give up just Blake.. I'm happy.. also depends on when we do the trade.. if we do it after we sign FA's then I'd be happier.. but then we would have to match salaries to get Kirk.. hmm

Yes.

I think I'd prefer Kirk to NOTHING happening, though I don't think I'd exactly be "happy" about it being the primary/only move to improve the roster.

Well.....it would be a step above doing nothing. It should help the defense. I suppose having a PG who is actually a playmaker is too much to ask.

Right, it can't be combined, but it could (for instance) bring us Andray Blatche's or Maurice Evans' salary as a trade add-on, increasing the salary of the player we can get back.

For instance, Blake + Outlaw today = 8.25M. That means we can trade those two for a player (or group of players) who make between 6.5M and 10.41M, and the new team can conceivably cut them (saving all of the 8.25M) or keep them, and the contracts go to 7.6M next year for a couple of useful players.

If we add the TE into the mix, the total outgoing is now 11.163M, and can bring back between 8.83M and 14.05M in salaries, of which one of the players has to be less than 2.913, and the new team can have the same savings. Places this could work as an increased benefit are/was:

Washington...with Blatche, we couldn't have even taken James and Songaila (10.478M)for Outlaw and Blake (to get the #5 pick). But adding in the TE, we could've taken James, Songaila AND Blatche.

Atlanta, perhaps could've had Blake and Outlaw for Josh Smith (10M). But we could've also used the TE to take back Maurice Evans' contract basically for free.
 
I can't think of a single point guard play maker who was sidekick to a superstar wing play maker. If he can defend and shoot the three, then give him to me!

I think one that playmakes and defends is hard to pry away from other teams. That's all. Maybe we'll get one still in the draft. You never know.
 
Now THIS is more like it...

(Before you click and get mad, it's an invented trade, not an actual ("actual") rumor. But I don't think it's as crazy as it might seem, given the notorious cheapness and terrible economic state of the other team.)

:lol: That's actually a rather good way of putting it. " I dream about landing player X, but I would settle for Hinrich."


All this talk about Hinrich also reminds me of the old rule: there are no ugly girls at closing time!

Since the talk has been about it mostly being about cap relief and maybe a very minor player, I'm proceeding on that assumption. So yes, happy. I think the team would be significantly stronger.
 
The key point, at least to me, is that getting Hinrich alone isn't enough.

I'm not against getting Hinrich for the right price....but we need to do more than that!

I went over to a Bulls fan board, and several bemoaned the potential loss of defense.

As for what they expect coming back several thought:

Blake, Travis & our #24 (now #22)

others wanted Pryzbilla and the pick.

others said unless they get Rudy, they wouldn't be happy.

Just to let the Blazer fans know.

It is funny to see the gap between what the Blazer fans think and the Bulls fans think about what kind of trade seems right to them.

Clearly there is a large gap in perception.

I think he may be a slight upgrade, but I am unconvinced that he is a significant upgrade or one of those "veteran pieces" to push POR over the top....
 
Absolutely. He's a much better defender than Blake, can shoot, and is a better distributor. A good upgrade, now if we can somehow land Hedo, then we'd be set.

Here is the likely final Kirk trade to Portland

Kirk / #26 for Blake / Outlaw / #22.
