You won't hear that until the first press conference after the trade deadline passes...I will be happy either way this turns out. I would miss Crabbe. But I just wish there was a 'we decided to stand firm' announcement instead of wondering if it's still coming.
If this doesn't happen by midday tomorrow then it isn't happening period imo.
We COULD match or exceed ANY package. That doesn't mean we would or should. I trust Olshey completely. If there is no deal (and I think there will be no deal personally) then he has more than deserved the benefit of the doubt. Especially since Chandler is very inefficient. The worst would be finding out he got traded elsewhere and for a package we could have matched or exceeded. A 1st round pick means nothing to the blazers.

THE DENVER CONUNDRUM
Last week the media met with Nuggets GM Tim Connelly following the trade of Timofey Mozgov to Cleveland, hoping to get some clarification on whether the Nuggets were clearing their stacked cap as the playoffs slip away, or if this was a half-measure, and the team would continue pushing for the 8th seed.
Things only got more confusing. While acknowledging that there's a point where the team has to look to the future and deal with the reality of their "disappointing" situation in the standings, the team is unlikely (a near lock to not) tank, and will continue to hope for the situation to improve. And in keeping with Denver's completely bi-polar season, the Nuggets have rattled off four straight wins.
The Nuggets are hopeful they can make a run, but are clearly open for business, with wings Afflalo and Wilson Chandler the most available and best targets.
Denver's biggest issue is that they have a bit of a domino effect looming. Moving Timofey Mozgov meant that Jusef Nurkic gets more minutes, along with veteran J.J. Hickson. But moving Afflalo or Chandler means there's little reason to keep the other one, and more reason to find playing time for rookie Gary Harris.
And if you're playing two rookies... why keep Ty Lawson? And if you move near-All-Star Ty Lawson, why keep Kenneth Faried? And then you're tanking, which the Nuggets ownership and management have an outright moral objection to.
This is the position they're stuck in. Denver can't get worse but it's also possible that they can't improve with a trade.
The most likely scenario involves moving one of Chandler or Afflalo, and then letting the other one depart in free agency to clear cap room. But again, that's a half-measure. One thing is clear, however. If you want to get ahold of the Nuggets' assets, you either need a superstar to send back or multiple picks.
It is just the newest flavor. I don't believe he wants Chandler specifically as much as he wants "someone" now. What the heck has Wilson Chandler done that makes you think that acquiring him is an essential move for the Blazers?

You trust olshey completely? If you made a list of all his moves/targets it wouldn't be something that would give me 100% trust in the guy.
The trust lies with record and the internal player happiness. So yeah, I trust him completely.
It's not the players you acquire, it's how you can blend the right talent to work together as one unit. Go ask San Antonio why they didn't go after top free agents during their 5 title run.
And our record is deceiving. Over 20 of those wins are against sub .500 teams. I hope olshey is smart enough to realize our record isn't really indicative of where we actually are.
Or he doesn't have an ID card to cash themSly doesn't take checks. Even PA's. He's a man of principle, and untraceable cash.
No they didn't but they still went out and acquired role players like belinelli, etc. Chandler is in that same category of role players.
Or Houston's GMI really hope that the Warrior's GM realizes that 19 of their wins are against sub .500 teams and that their record isn't really indicative of where they actually are.
Or, wait, maybe good teams are supposed to beat bad teams and Western Conference teams are scheduled to play the generally crappy Eastern Conference teams primarily in the first few months of the schedule.
They didn't acquire them midseason. They got them in the offseason so they had time to gel.
Your obsession with making trades is getting over the top. You're reaching BGD levels here.
I basically agree with this sentiment. If the Blazers trade for Chandler, I'll presume the Blazers staff is pretty sure he will contribute more than the players who are going out. If they don't, I'll presume they thought otherwise. And I'll support their decision either way. What the heck has Wilson Chandler done that makes you think that acquiring him is an essential move for the Blazers?
Hey look, another guy that agrees
Well let's rethink this when we have our starting center and back up PF/C, who both our one of our best offensive rebounders and rim protectors
That's not our biggest weakness. We need another wing that can score. It would also allow batum and wes to rest more, which is important because 1) both are banged up and 2) our team was worn out last year vs the spurs. When Lillard, one of the best conditioned athletes in the NBA says he was worn out, you can bet everyone else on the team was as well.
I think we have one that can score, but he's still trying to get back to playing at the efficiency before he was injured. Having the offensive rebounders actually help our bench. The offensive board gives our team better opportunities to score.
Btw, our bench isn't like last season. In a lot of cases, we've actually built on a lead when our bench comes in. Sometimes you don't need to score to be effective, especially when you keep a starter or two in with the bench at all times.
Not saying we don't need freeland back, as well as maybe signing another rim protector like Oneal. I just don't think that's our primary need. Are you talking about McCollum? Can't wait on him right now. We've got a window to win a ring. Let's go get it.
But as I look at Chandler's numbers, I question if he's the right piece. If we are to get a scoring wing off the bench, I would much rather have one that slashes, runs the break and gets to the foul line. Chandler hasn't shown this. You made a statement that Wroten isn't the player for this squad, but I think he's more the player of need than Chandler.
Wroten can slash but he can't shoot, and if you can't shoot, you won't fit in this system. Chandler can score in multiple ways. He can create his own shot. He can shoot 3s. He can defend multiple positions. He doesn't need the ball in his hands all the time like Wroten.
See I disagree with that statement. We need another player off the bench that can scorer without shooting the jumper. Wroten would have open lanes to the basket for the slashing score or the foul. This is essential when the outside shot isn't falling.
We have plenty of shooters already. When they are hot, we cannot be beat. But we aren't hot every game, so having a player that can get scores in the paint or at the line will balance out our attack.
