I can understand not liking Clingan.

But other than them both being tall white guys, Clingan and Collins are NOTHING alike. Completely different players.
Well, let’s see…..

Collins was the last big that we drafted in the lottery. He was a reach by Neil. He was a guy who didn’t play many minutes in college. He was lauded for his defense. He was seen as a role player. Their color has nothing to do with it. They are similar players. Main difference is that Clingan is bigger.

Hearing from where? I hear Holland is dropping like a rock.
Nah he’s still top 5 in a couple mocks and top 10 in pretty much all the rest. This is up from 10-20 range a month ago.
My two (albeit limited) sources say the Blazers are very interested. Totally makes sense.

They are completely different stylistically. Zach was a guy that you expected to be able to play switching defense while providing weak side shot blocking. Clingan is a traditional drop big. Offensively, Zach was supposed to be able to stretch the floor, whereas Clingan is just a PnR/dunker spot guy. Not to mention Clingan is WAY bigger, stronger, and physically ready to play.

And he didn’t seem to imp
He played 22 minutes because his conditioning was horrible. I think it's part of the reason Edey ate him up. Clingan looked gassed after a few minutes in every game I watched.
his conditioning as Edey out performed him at the combine in pretty much everything.

1. Every Blazer rumor, the Blazers put out there to throw a fake...e.g. Clingan, to con a team into taking him, so that 1 more player is available at #7.

2. Therefore, every rumor in this thread is the opposite of the truth.

3. So I had my son write a little program to insert a negative sign in front of every sentence. Now, you too can read this thread without reinterpreting everything.

4. 250 bucks but hurry, supplies are limited.

And MUCH slower

Clingan sure feels like Zach Collins is 2.0.

He averaged 22 minutes per game this season. I honestly hate drafting centers in the lottery.
I like the IQ and passing from Clingan. If he was more mobile, I wouldn't mind him, but he's slow. Much slower than Kessler if you watch their college film back-to-back.

What type of sources are you hearing this from?

This would be absolutely fantastic
Pretty well known who I have worked for for many years. The contacts I have are far from reliable but obviously the guy used to play for the Blazers so there is that. Once you play for the team and decide to live and raise your family here you are a Blazer for life. Now I will tell you this. His tales on Blazers and fandom would make your head spin. It's why I'm all about getting new ownership as it stand right now.
Let me say this again "My contacts are far from reliable". Most of what I'm saying is what I hear someone else who heard something say. Then sprinkle in my own homerism and I'm on the Ron Holland pick for this team. Perfect fit and has lots of upside that might blossom. In this draft It's pretty much the best you could hope for at #7.

If we come out of this draft with Holland and Da Silva, I would be mostly satisfied. Roster building he damned but getting two guys to throw at a wall to see who sticks as the SF of the future is not a bad way to do business.

Collins stock was high for the same reasons Cody Williams and and Sheppard Reed's stock is high.

Collins shot 67% from 2, 48% from 3 and his per 40 statline was 23/14/4. That's in addition to being projected as a good defender. He also displayed a firey competitive flair. I loved the pick at the time.

Zach also wouldn't be regarded as a "bust" if he could stay healthy. I'd love to have him back as our PF.

I'm not too high on him, but I have seen him high on some mocks. Brook Lopez without the 3pt shot and poor free throw shooter.

But hey, he won back to back in college, maybe I'm wrong about him

No, Brook Lopez without OFFENSE. Brook average 20+ppg, and didn't even start putting up 3s until 9 years into his career. I don't know where this comparison came from...

Yep!
Just heard again Blazers are going after Ron Holland.
Very young but they feel he is the steal of the draft.

Ron Holland's TS% was 55% in the g-league. Which would have ranked 2nd to last as a team, only above the Blazers abysmal. 54.5%

The idea of adding someone whose shooting is a big question mark, and pairing him with Scoot, when the Blazers are already have the the worst 3pt shooting team in the league...

TS% tracks very closely with team success. So it would be an uphill battle, building a roster around guys who are not good shooters or efficient scorers. You can get away with it if it's just one guy, but the Blazers seem to be collecting them...

The Kid isn’t even 19 yet.
No there is absolutely no guarantee he will ever even sniff the court.
The point is more that he has the tools to play the game very well in time.
In this draft it seems you either go for a role player or you take a chance on an unproven prospect.

In theory, I have to agree with you since I have also questioned whether or not Scoot and Holland are a good fit. But if they think Holland offers a "Hart" type of addition to the team where he will fill up the box score, then it is doable if they have 3 shooters on the floor with them. It would take a lot of "ifs" for it to work, but a Scoot, Sharpe, Holland, Ayton, Salaun lineup in a couple of years would be interesting. ....if Salaun or someone like him became a really good shooter.

Having said that it would be a lot easier to draft a shooter at SF and get an energy-type guy who does the dirty work at the 4 (ie Camara)

I'm not sure why we even bother to bring team stats from last year into any conversation. Individual stats sure, but when you have Camara and Reath leading the way in the number of games played, how relevant can those stats be?

I do. They're both big, slow, and white.

Haven’t checked in, in awhile….are we all still SUPER excited for this draft?

This is the most exciting and most finger nail biting draft / offseason I have seen in awhile cause the next TWO off seasons in my opinion will be the building blocks that will either launch this team into being a contender or it could make them a lotto team for the next 5 plus years. The reason I say this is not just for the players drafted but the ramifications on the existing players depending on who these players are and what positions they will be filling. I think the only player that is safe is Scoot and maybe Sharpe the rest should be nervous cause good chance they will be pushed either to be better or out the door between now and the next offseason. I legit have ZERO clue on who Cronin and co. are even looking at and at this point I take most of these rumors as maybe a thread of truth but also lies that could be trying to shape the draft in the direction for the Blazers and who might be there at 7 or 14. I am so ready for the draft and no matter what happens -- Go Blazers

But but but… a certain poster keeps telling us to not be excited. How dare you?
