Freshman deferring to two seniors and playing injured. Context matters. There's a reason why Holland seems to be slipping even past the lottery.
Do you have a scouting report for Cody from HS that show s that he was NOT passive?

It sounds to me like it's more his personality.

Similarly, his energy level can be inconsistent at times, which can compound his current struggles with physicality.

I agree that context is key here. Holland is almost a year younger than Cody, playing against much better competition. He became the leader of the team & put up just as good or better statistics than any of the past GLeague draftees

I can see why you would prefer Holland. He does have a very high ceiling. His shot will only get better. You add him to Scoot, Shae, Ayton, and a 3 and D stretch 4 you have the making of a very good starting 5 in a few years. Assuming they all improve as they get older.

However as difficult as it is to evaluate these teenagers by watching film and analyzing their stats, I am very skeptical about trying to think we have any knowledge about their personalities at that age. It is one thing to prefer a gym rat over someone who doesn't work that hard, but trying to figure out if he is too passive or not seems like a stretch to me.

As for his senior year in HS, he averaged 18.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and four assists per game while leading his team to a 30–1 record and a second consecutive state championship. Maybe he was passive or maybe he was a team player who just cared about winning. I have no idea.

Cody getting functionally stronger by putting on 30 lbs over a few years is doable — There’s no rush. Working on core strength along with everything else makes for an easy 10 which is a good start. As he gets stronger and more experienced, at least some of the current weaknesses can be reduced or eliminated.

While I like Holland, Cody's perceived lack of aggression is less of a problem for me when taking into account all of a Holland's flaws. On skills, Cody is far ahead of Holland.

Saying all that, I wouldn't be opposed to taking Salaun at 7 and Holland at 14. I think Cody has higher star potential than Salaun but Salaun's profile is more scarce.

I did see this whenI search for it:

" Quite a few teams would like to get to know him better. Salaun, ranked No. 9 in ESPN's Top 100, conducted workouts with Portland, Sacramento and Oklahoma City before spraining his ankle this past weekend in San Antonio, which might prevent him from working out in scheduled visits with Detroit and Charlotte."3 days ago"

The tweet said he cancelled his portland workout.

:dunno:

Well he did work out in Portland so you either misread the tweet or the tweet is garbage but no worries since he did and I think it comes down to Dalton and him at 7 assuming they do not trade up. If either are there it's between them and my guess if both are there they take the safer pick in Dalton and while I would not mind it I would rather take the risk on Salaun since I think he has a better upside.

Didn't misread the tweet. That's what it said.

He wants to team up with Wemby but SA wanna take him at 8 instead of 4. That's what this news is about

If it's true, that's how I read it as well. They're hoping they can scare people away from taking him ahead of 8. They're probably looking for Castle at 4 and Salaun at 8.

This scenario is very likely

As for Portland
We cannot add 4 tookies in 4 days without making any moves

What's all the excitement about this Salaun kid? He's actually not that bigger than Cody Williams, and Cody has at least displayed a high degree of offensive skill. And the people on this forum selected Salaun over Cody?

Salaun and Clingan are the two I"m hoping we DON'T take at 7.

If I was to guess the Blazers big board on who might be there at 7 and who they might take this is what I think it is ( also going realistic so take off Sarr , Shep , Rich and Castle but going to leave Clingan on just cause there is a realistic chance he might be there if Hawks do not take him at 1 )

1) Clingan -- too much smoke for this to be untrue that the team is interested in him
2) Knecht -- Closer to being ready and less chance for a dud
3) Salaun -- I think 2 and 3 are super close but the fear he might bust keeps him at 3 -- but he could be a top 10 upside guy in the draft
4) Williams
5) Buzelis
6) Holland
7) Ware and Topic tied cause I think the temptation of Topic might be something in the future is too tempting even with all the guards on roster
