Woj: Batum trade to CHA for Vonleh and Henderson

Here's the other issue that really isn't being talked about:

I think he leaves regardless when he becomes a FA next summer. I don't think he really wanted to be here before, and I'm pretty sure he signs somewhere else next summer. I don't think Charlotte has a chance in hell of retaining him.

Valid point.

Personally, I think it could signal the end to RoLo here. I think management is thinking bigger at center. RoLo was most effective on offense in his interactions with Batum. RoLo's effectiveness in our offense LIKELY just took a serious hit.

He won't be the only one.

The biggest question now after seeing the Henderson pass to the 3rd row will be, who passes the ball in from the sidelines now?

While I am coming around on this trade I do think this is spot on:

Funny. I'm pretty sure most of us would've traded Batum for last year's #9 and Henderson. I would have, and anyone that follows knows I've been a big Batum supporter. I love Batum, great glue guy, but his inconsistency hurts.

There was a reason why our team was unstoppable when Batum was on. If we have a true legit third option, we can be unstoppable again with more consistency.

I wouldn't have last year. He was coming off arguably his best season and didn't shit the bed in the playoffs (like he usually does). I didn't like that draft after the top 3 though so that is probably most of it.

Nic may bounce back a bit, but he has been labeled inconsistent since before he was drafted. If it hasn't changed by this point I don't think it will. He will have a better year than last year, but they will be pulling their hair out when they play us and he won't post up Lillard, and doesn't shoot any threes because he's trying to hit 10 assists.

Blue9 must be really upset. The player he loves is traded and the player he hates will most likely stay. I expect we won't be seeing him the same for a few weeks

Since their is a limit to how many players you can actually play, 7-8 realistically, anytime you trade 1 better player for multiple lesser players you lose. Space, pics, blah blah... until Neil magically fills this hole he's created we're a far weaker team at the 2 and 3 than we were before the trade and are stuck with 2 guys nobody else wanted.

As Bill Walsh said, better to get rid of a player one year to early that one year too late.
Too bad we don't always have the foresight. If we did then we would all have won the lottery by now and it would have shut down due to bankruptcy.

They could plan on using the great white hope as a stretch 5?

Maybe; in my opinion, he's not ready for prime time for another couple of optimistic years yet. But you never know; he was very effective in the playoffs. Confused the hell out of Gasol, and held his own against him in the post (no worse than Rolo).

Vonleh may become an All-Star or he may bust. I'm willing to move Batum to take that risk. We already know what Nic's capable of and the team, as currently constructed, just wasn't good enough to win it all so I like the move to shake things up.

I'd argue he guarded gasol better than rolo. Rolo looked lost and almost useless in that series

Q. Before becoming a Blazer, what did Gerald Henderson have in come with Dorell Wright, Robin Lopez and LaMarcus Aldridge?

A. All four players have the same agent, Wasserman Media Group.
Hope the Wasserman Media Group and Olshey working together in the Henderson to Blazers trade is a good indicator that they are also working together to re-sign LMA, Rolo and maybe even Dorell with the Blazers.

Crabbe played really well for 8 games as a starter when Nic was out with injury...he's going to get a shot at SF...DWright can play the 3 as well.

A. All four players have the same agent, Arn Tellem.
Hope Tellem and Olshey working together in the Henderson to Blazers trade is a good indicator that they are also working together to re-sign LMA, Rolo and maybe even Dorell with the Blazers.
I thought Tellem signed on with the front office of a team somewhere recently..wouldn't that be a conflict of interest juggling clients?

I'm not a big Henderson fan, but I like Vonleh a lot and I bet he would have been a top 5 pick in this year's draft if he's stayed in another year. The Blazers met with Vonleh last May, before the draft, in spite of not having a first rounder and I'd imagine they're excited to get him.
