WOJ: Dame wants the super max extension

Love Dame, but there is no way he is worth that at age 35/36. I know, loyalty, leadership, and all that, but at some point, for it to be worth it, doesn't that need to translate into post-season success? Likely, I'll take a bashing for this, but I've just seen too many franchises hang on to their players and the contracts end up hamstringing the franchise. I suppose it is one thing if that player has brought relevance and titles, but that isn't close to being the case here.

I guess I'm just gonna have to look at it like I'm only 41.... I have maybe 35-40 more years to hopefully see us win a title.

You older guys are screwed though. :devilwink:

...what year will we expect him to re-structure his deal so the Blazers can afford to build a competitive roster? Harden just did this in Philly :dunno:
Exactly. Harden took one for the team. Lillard didn't because why should he? We aren't even close.

Ah, the "you're wrong" police. Can't say it wasn't predictable. Whether Dame is in shape or not isn't the issue. He's not worth that money now, and he is better now than he will be then.

I had his numbers at:

22-23: 42.492
23-24: 45.64
24-25: 48.79
25-26: 52.69
26-27: 56.91 (PO)

Not sure how they're getting to 122. This comes to 5yr, 247.
obscene dollars at that age IMO, why no discount like Harden? How bad does he want to win?

Always like posts that start with “Love Dame BUT”

No offense BUT eat shit.

You can eat shit as well (no offense of course) if you can't accept a different opinion. Odds now favor 4 more years of treadmill action

Ahh, showing off the intelligence again? Nicely done. I can completely love Dame and still have an issue with something. Feel free to engage in an intellectual response....or not.
I'll help with the likely inevitable response. "Ignore"

If Blazers want to spend 35% on Lillard for next decade what is the point of drafting future superstars? If Dame wants the money AND the chip, trade Ant, Sharp, Little and Keon for KD. We can't go both directions at the same time.

Hard.

Cap.

are you aware that as of now Portland has paid Dame 19.3M/year? Has Dame been a bargain at a decade at less than 20M/year?

when Dame completes his current contract, the Blazers will have had Dame for 13 years at 25.4M/year. Is that a bargain too?

Dame has spent his career in Portland paying it forward. You can't just focus on the last 2 years of a 15 year career because the critical context for gauging those 2 seasons is the previous 13 seasons. This isn't just about what he'll be worth those last 2 years but what he's been worth the previous 13 and Portland has had him at a bargain

Yes, everyone is aware that players don't get paid a lot in their rookie contracts. And I absolutely look at the big picture. Very good offensive player that has yet to win a Conference Finals game. I can like Dame all I want, but that is the reality. It is certainly not all on him, but I to think he should have put pressure on Neil long long ago and the same with Terry. It finally happened, but it is awfully late in the 'day'.

During almost all of this time, it has been a wings league. The Blazers are spending a very large sum of money on a position that does not tend to produce results. And before anyone points out Steph, please, not the same category.

Happy for Dame that he got his money. Sad for the team, as we aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

Star point guard Damian Lillard has agreed to a two-year, $122 million contract extension with the Portland Trail Blazers that will tie him to the franchise through the 2026-27 season, sources told Andscape's Marc J. Spears and ESPN's Bobby Marks.

Lillard is expected to sign his deal Saturday in Las Vegas, a source told Spears.

$61mil per year. $11 mil more.

Let the outrage begin lmao.

Ugh. I don’t like the idea of this. I’d rather we of paid him that kind of money when he was 28-32.
