Worst Blazer Ever

Thinking back on the end of last year and how horrible the trade for Affalo turned out to be, (I needn't mind you how horrible his play was for us) and the very lackluster season for Blake I got to wondering who is the worst blazer player of all time.

Of course Raymond Felton immediately comes to mind.
Horrible? Are you high?

And Darius Miles comes to mind, too...

Same could be said for everyones hero. At least Oden didnt sign with a division rival

BRoy basically went to whoever was willing to give him a chance.
It's not like he went to the Lakers. I forget the TWolves are even in our division.

Oden was disappointing because he had the potential to be a David Robinson type player. But injuries, I really can't complain, they do happen. It was heartbreaking to say the least.

Roy went down with injuries, his signing with the T-wolves really didn't sting because he was done and just trying to pretend he wasn't.

LaMarcus pissed me off because he willingly left while he was still in his peak.

Define your term - "worst" in what way?
Least talent?
Did the least with his talent?
Greatest disappointment?
Worst attitude/behavior?
Left the team with the most bad feelings?
Most over the hill with big contract and nothing left in the tank?

No one can claim Aldridge, for example, in the first 4 categories but that he is listed here shows some consider no. 5 to be the top of their list.

My list for the 5 would be:
LaRue Martin (a lot of second round picks fit but then who remembers them?)
JR Rider
Greg Oden
Ruben Patterson
Hate to say it but Bill Walton
Steve Francis

I'm surprised Bonzi Wells is not on your list.

But he would have gone to the Lakers, according to your logic.

'worst' is highly subjective.

worst bang for buck investment - oden
worst character - ruben patterson
worst deliverer of hopes n dreams - oden
worst actual player - probably someone who nobody has mentioned
worst at not taking weed thru airports - my boy, damon

Twist on this. Worst season PER in history for the Blazers:
-20 Slavko Vranes (2003-2004)
-18 Greg Smith (1975-76)
-12 Brian Shaw (1998-99)
-8.4 Martell (2008-09)
....
1.0 Babbitt
2.5 Ha Seung-Jin
7.1 Nolan Smith

Win shares? Wow! (in order)
-1.0 Darius Miles (2005-06) (No. 1)
-0.8 Lionel Hollins (1979-80)
-0.5 Will Barton (2012-13)
-0.5 Nolan Smith (2012-13)
...
-0.4 Babbitt (2010)
-0.4 LaRue Martin (1972)
-0.4 Sebastian Telfair (2004)
-0.3 Nolan Smith (2011)
-0.2 Monia (2005)
-0.2 Sergio (2007)
-0.2 Ha Seung-Jin (2004)
-0.2 Qyntel Woods (2003)
-0.1 Claver (2012)

Off Topic: Clyde has 5 of the top 10 best WS seasons for the Blazers, but . . . Roy had #1 (2008, 13.5).

Compared to the amount of playing time they got (and shouldn't have got) then I think you go with Nolan Smith and Luke Babbitt.

Maybe, but he didn't, so I just can't hate him for giving it one more shot. I agree it was stupid of him to think he could play again, but I don't hate him for it.

If I was Paul Allen I would be pissed as he couldn't collect on the insurance, but I doubt it hurt the Blazers much in terms of cap space. Yes we could have used the amnesty on someone else, but no one else had that big of contract. And as you have pointed out many times, it's not like it kept us from landing a big time free agent.

Qyntel Woods -- marginal player that flashed at times, but dogfighting just is something I can never personally forgive. If you were to ask me who I could instantly erase from Blazer history books, it would be Qyntel Woods.

Great off season topic. I really don't have a choice but it is interesting to view the forum choices.

For me, assuming the definitions above.......

Least Talent: LaRue Martin (other than directly playing versus Bill Walton)
Did Least with Talents: Sheed (he had the talent to be so much more than he ever was IMO)
Greatest disappointment: Greg Oden/Sam Bowie
Worst attitude/behavior: Sheed/Stoudamire/Woods/Felton/Walter Berry
Left team with most bad feelings: Bill Walton (2 years after MVP season, MVP Finals, Championship Ring)(Aldridge not even close!!)
Most over-the-hill /fat contract /nothing left: Shawn Kemp

To me, WBE would have to involve badmouthing the team/fans/state. Not many have, but there have some. No, I don't count Rider's (or whoever's) delusional quote about "people hanging from the trees."

Does NO ONE remember why that trade was made? good grief. it was made to give us insurance behind Wesley Matthews, our Iron man. The guy who never got hurt. And then he did. And then we had to throw a lineup together with a guy who just got here... in the middle of the western conference race that went down to the last couple of games... so we got every teams best.

Does NO ONE remember that? That trade was AWESOME. Good grief.

We gave up Barton, Robinsom, and a pick and having nothing to show for it.

Even though he is the most hated right now, LMA should never be on this list.

He doesn't even compare to:

Raymond Felton
Shawn Kemp
Damon Stoudamire
or JR Rider

The starting backcourt of Damon/Rider got us to the WCF so I don't think they belong on this list. Furthermore, Kemp played pretty well when Sheed was out.

Great list. I agree totally except for classifying Bowie as a "biggest disappointment". He started out fairly well in Portland and gave us way more than Oden. Plus, injuries aside, he had a reasonably "long" career in the league. But most importantly, we turned him into Buck Williams, still one of the best trades in Blazer history. To call Bowie a big disappointment is rather harsh.....I mean, it's not like we coulda had Michael Jordan or anything....

well..they gave us much needed roster spots and we didn't have to pay them again

Kemp was on cocaine when he played for us. Rider (regardless of his acheivements) was a complete ass and never represented us well. Damon.... Should I really have to say anything about him? I don't think there's a person in here who likes him...

Eric, that might be better as the worst trade ever, but just because you trade a bunch of people away for someone that didn't get a shot and then opted out, doesn't make him the worst Blazer... at least not in my opinion.

The trade for Afflalo was absolutely the right move to make. Just like the trade for Felton was absolutely the right move to make. Wes blowing his Achilles made the former not work out, and Brandon waiting until the last possible moment to retire turned the latter into a fiasco. I don't blame Afflalo even a little bit for not being Wesley Matthews, he may not have played particularly well but it wasn't for lack of effort. I do blame Felton for showing up fatter than me and then sandbagging once things got rough.

The bolded is exactly my response, too, Eric. You can't look at hindsight to tell you trades are bad. Unfortunate, perhaps. But the bad (worst ever?) it will, and should never be, considered that. Afflalo came in here to be the 6th man, and nothing more. But he had to be something more, and with no time during the season for practice and cohesion... I mean, it's really a no brainer.
