I see today that Manchester United has filed an IPO.
LONDON — Manchester United launched its New York Stock Exchange listing on Monday, hoping to raise around $330 million by selling 10 percent of the Premier League club.

The record 19-time English champions said in a filing to the Security and Exchange Commission about 16.7 million shares will be offered at a cost of between $16 and $20.

United is looking to raise funds to help reduce debt from the Glazer family's 2005 takeover, rated at $663 million as of March 31.

The Glazers will retain control of the club through its ownership of Class B shares, which will have 10 times the voting power of the stock sold to the public.

The club was listed on the London Stock Exchange from 1991 until the Glazers completed a leveraged buyout valued at $1.47 billion in June 2005.

If Paul Allen were to put up 10% of the team for sale (not even sure the NBA would allow it but if they did) would you buy stock?

Nope.

Not until the team is run by someone with some actual business sense.

Sure. I "own" part of the Packers, so why not "own" part of another team.

(FYI, it's only worth it as long as we get to go sit in meaningless stockholder meetings and get access to special "owner" swag)

No. The Blazers aren't really built to make money AND be competitive

Shareholder meetings on PA's yacht would be fucking awesome!

I would. But not for investment purposes.

yeah, i'd do what i need to do to get a certificate and then frame that motherfucker.

My emotional investment is enough. Don't need to add my money into this.

So... no Comcast, game tickets, merchandise of any kind?

That's all shares would really be... merchandise.

Don't have cable. I suppose the five tickets I bought over the last few years count-- and I haven't bought any merchandise in the recent years. hahaha

Hell ya! Be really able to score with the babes if I was part owner of the Blazers! :)

not sure how these manchester united "stocks" work, but packer shares are non-transferable, and earn no dividends ever as far as i know, they are a souvenir

if they were treated like an actual stock then that would be much more interesting

Filed with the SEC and listed on the NYSE I would guess that they are an actual stock.

Damn! I knew ManU was worth a lot of cash, but I never would've guessed that they were worth $3.3 BILLION! :sherlock:

Yup, my share of Packers stock allows me to go to the annual "shareholders" meeting in Lambeau, and I can purchase some "owners only" swag from the Packer's pro-shop, but other than that it's basically like a voluntary tax and a chance to put something on your wall. The funny thing is most fans are cool with that since they all know it's wink-wink-nudge-nudge.

Yah, I would invest to make money, in fact as a long term investment it would be a rock for anyone to bank on. Basketball teams are better that real estate for stability and values going up over the long haul.

Are you from GB, Nik?

Would you buy stock in any Paul Allen business post-Microsoft?

My Grandfather was from Appleton.

I got a Lynn Dickey Jersey thrown on my back when I was 8 without knowing how much misery I was going to be in for, until the Ron Wolf/Mike Holmgren/Favre resurrection in the nineties. That said, the last twenty years have been pretty 'O-rite'.
