Say your job said you could go to haiti today, they'll pay you, to help out in the relief efforts.

You don't know what you'll be doing. It could be anything.

Would you go or not?

I would go. I actually read that the only people they're looking for at this point are trained medical staff, though.

My sister-in-law landed in Haiti yesterday. She's a pediatrician.

I would go. I want to get some boots-on-the-ground experience in a disaster. I'm actually in the process of trying to start a search and rescue team in Washington County, so I think it would be good experience. A lot of what's going on there is urban SAR, which is mostly about extrication.

I know guys who went to Katrina and Ike, so I wouldn't mind going to Haiti.

I believe anybody going there is supposed to meet the ground rule of being totally self sufficient. That means bringing your own shelter, foot, water for the duration.

Yeah, make sure you have a foot -- One minimum. Definitely mandatory.

I've volunteered. The closest the reserves will send me is to man a desk in Miami. :dunno:

yep. I've read that they only want specialists at the moment, but I'll definitely be looking at volunteer opportunities there when I graduate in June.

I have two friends that left for Haiti this morning. I'd probably go, too.
