If you believe in Jesus, there has been tales of his return. Many people every year claim to be Jesus reincarnate, What would you need to see to believe that this is the new messiah?

His appearance will be worldwide and unmistakable. Just like a summer thunderstorm that lights up the entire sky, everyone will see Jesus coming (Matthew 24:26-27, 30).

His return will also be accompanied by awesome cosmic events (Matthew 24:29-30). These events will herald the end of this age and the beginning of a new age in which both the heavens and the earth are cleansed and transformed by God.

Jesus will return bodily to the very place from which he ascended—the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem (read Acts 1:11-12; Zechariah 14:3,4a).

His return will touch off a tremendous earthquake (Zechariah 14:4b). This is the great earthquake often mentioned elsewhere in Revelation (6:12; 11:19) and by other Old Testament prophets (Isaiah 24:19; Joel 3:14-16).

Haha^ Sounds like the script to a Summer Blobkbuster!

Sent from my baller ass iPad FAMS!

Returns to the Middle East and sets off lighting storms and earthquakes?

He'd be labeled a terrorist and a drone would kill him.

Maybe he will return, frozen in Carbonite and confused with a meteor. But Nasa will blow up Jesus before he can land. WAY TO GO NASA!

The question makes an assumption that there is an "old" messiah, for which there is no evidence. Just people who say they "know" it. Also assumes a belief in messiahs generally.

So no, since there is no such thing. We control our fate.

If they're dressed in sandles and a bathrobe, with bushy facial hair and sunglasses, holding a White Russian and a bowling ball, I'd believe.

I will be in Heaven when it occurs--either through death and glorification or by rapture. Either way, not my bag.

When he returns, the earth will already be run by the antichrist.

I know this, I was raised Jewish and now am an Atheist Jew. But because i didn't grow up with any of this Jesus talk (except as punchlines) I really don't know much about it. Would you comment if I asked "would you recognize if the new Loch Ness Monster arrived?" That would suppose that you had believed there was an old nessy. More likely you skip over it and giggle that anyone believed in nessy.

Another question for believers: Do you think the rapture will happen in your lifetime?

But to the OP, the Bible is pretty explicit in multiple places that a) unlike Old Testament prophecies of the Messiah that were quite specific (where born, where he lived, suffering servant, etc) no one will know the date of the coming of Christ,
Matthew 24:36 said:
“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son,[a] but the Father only. (edit: some manuscripts omit "nor the Son"
b) when it happens (and depending on your particular brand of Islam or Christianity, there are slight variations on this) it will be accompanied by or after a huge exodus of "the saved", and c) that those who prophesy are to be tested against the Word of God.
1 John 4:1 said:
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

So if you haven't seen millions of people disappear, the person is more likely David Koresh than the Son of David. If someone says they know the date of the rapture/end of the world/return of the antichrist, then they are false prophets and should be disciplined through the church. If someone says or does something contrary to the teachings of the Bible or in sin, then they are not from God.

Interesting. It seems that many (this is mostly from news stories so I could be wrong) in America who are devout Christians believe that the second coming will be happening within their lifetime. I have even heard that used as an excuse for plundering the earths natural resources, that none of that matters because the second coming will come and sweep all the believers into heaven before anyone has to deal with consequences of the plundering. But it would seem from your response that you do not think along these lines at all, since you could very well be long gone and your grandchildren inheriting the earth (or your grandchildrens great great great grandchildren) when the second coming arrives.

Then the question comes

Would you recognize the antichrist?

Well according to the bible no one will recognize him. In fact, everyone will love him. Before that happens; Christians are to ascend into heaven.

So what does "ascend into heaven mean?" One day, there will just be a billion fewer people?

Another question if you please, In the past I would often hear or read of purgatory, but nowdays everything being said or written seems much more black and white with everything resulting in heaven or hell. Can anyone explain this?

This thread seems like a good place to just turn it into an "ask a Christian" thread.

I am sure that others can answer this better, but you seem ernest, so I will give it a shot

Purgatory, to me isan old testament concept, like a holding cell before you go in front of the Judge.

in Revelations, it speak of all the dead raising to be judged by God..

Most Cathoics hold to the notion that it is real, and is for those that lived before Jesus.

before we move onto the meat of this post, lets just all chuckle over the misspelling. I'm just picturing a bunch of old time dads floating away mid scolding.

As far as me being earnest, some of my posts are and some arent, I tend to mix jokes in with real inquiries, never meaning to mock but more just enjoying the lighter mood. But you are correct, in this case I was totally earnest. So basically from my viewpoint (a non-believer) if you are correct then it should look like the Zombie Apocalypse (minus the brain eating) if the rapture ever came?

Bah...should never type while in a hurry.

No, not zombies, but rather as in life and the appearnce of how you look in Gods eyes, perfect, before corruption. Then you have to be heald accountable.

maybe the rapture happened and all they took was some tribesmen nobody missed

How are you to know how we look in Gods eyes? Is it written in the Bible? otherwise seems kind of presumptive.

But OK, not zombies, then what from MY standpoint should I expect to see/experience during the rapture?

people absent would be my guess..

Purgatory is a catholic belief. I still haven't found in the bible where it explains anything of the sort.

Personally I think we are far from the rapture. That's my personal view though. So my answer is "no I do not think he will come in my lifetime"
