Would you trade him for something better? And who do you think in a perfect world we could get/.

yeah I think he could be pretty good on the defensive end of things..

Sure, no one is untouchable. It would just take a really good return. I have no idea what his value around the league is (and thus, what he could get in trade)...I just know that I place a great deal of value on him.

Agreed. You'd need to get someone that would either be a better fit for our team in 3-4 years, or someone who would be a signifcant upgrade in talent now (Batum packaged with other players of course). Preferably both.

Considering that top of my wish list for the Blazers in the offseason was Tayshaun Prince, and Batum is the nearest thing to a 19 year old version of him, I would say it would take a lot. Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Derek Rose? Sure! But as none of them are serious options, I can't say I see a legitimate trade where I'd be happy to lose him.

Batum is someone I really think we should hold onto.

Along with Minstrel, I value him very highly for the future production I think he'll be able to provide, but if the right player was on the table (Tayshaun Prince, Gerald Wallace, for instance) and the key to the deal was moving or holding on to Batum then I think you trade him.

I'd rather hold onto him than TO and Martell since he's at least demonstrated an ability to play defense early on in his career. He seems extremely driven to improve as well.

I agree w/ this.

Agreed, Batum may be the next coming of Pippen, you don't trade that. Outlaw and Martell way before Batum. I think Outlaw although he can score does not understand basketball as a team sport at all. It shows with his IQ on the court. Webster is a great shooter in practice, but that's not a damn game!!!

id deal anyone on the team for a substantial upgrade, except roy, because then id have to change my sig.

If you've watched him tonight and you said yes... you are a fool. :)

Why wouldn't you trade him? If someone gave you a good deal, you take it. Batum is nice, and he played well today, but if Butler/Wallace/etc. were offered, and they wanted Batum, then I'd trade him.

No way. I would trade Bayless before him. He is ahead of Martell and Outlaw in my book. Right behind Rudy.

Roy
LMA
Oden
Rudy
Batum

^^^ Our best players in that order.

i think i would honestly put batum over rudy, rudy is overrated by our fans.

nope wouldnt unless a really good deal came along and even then id hesitate

I'd be for trading anyone for an upgrade (as I define it) which is the question of the OP. Foolish as I am, I root for the Blazers well above any single player.

btw... as I've stated several times elsewhere that I really like Batum. In fact, I was one of the few here pining for him on draft day at #13

Everyone has been pumping Caron Butler or Gerald Wallace lately. I don't disagree, but I think that Danny Granger is another desirable (and likely unobtainable) piece.

I wouldn't trade him. He's already an NBA ready defender, he can shoot, elevate, and pass intelligently. His offense is rookie'ish, but I really think he's going to be a high caliber NBA starter at the very least. He was a huge steal at #25.

Which is why no one is talking about Granger...Butler might become available soon....and Wallace is for a decent price, and they both fit just as well into what Portland needs.

Not after what I saw tonight! He had some spark in him to take it to Kobe, and hard. I like that fire. We need that more....

Funny cuz when I was typing that... I was telling myself "should I put Nic above Rudy?"

I prolly would.

I've got to say I've been increasingly "underwhelmed" by Rudy ... I can tell he's still a smart player, but he's just too skinny to take it inside with any regularity, and his ability to create off the dribble needs a lot of work.

Funny, we almost never see threads bemoaning his lackluster play when almost everyone else on the team is criticized regularly when they underperform. I wonder why that is?

How in the fuck can people say no to trading someone for someone better??????

I'd trade Roy for someone better too.

Now you have to determine what is and what is not better. Battier is betterm but his cieling isn't as high, but maybe Batum will never get any better?

Wallace is better, but older and you have to ask yourself if Batum will ever be better. If so then you probably don't make that move. If you don't think Batum will ever be as good as Wallace though you should trade for Wallace.....or anyone else.

He's struggled lately, but I give him a pass considering this is his first NBA season. Although I'm disappointed, I thought he would be the one guy who would step up big with Roy out.
