If I had any confidence that Olshey could flip Whiteside for a profit, I'd say, try it. But any player who arrives here stays, until economics forces Olshey to wake up and dump him, so, don't touch Whiteside with a 10-foot pole.

No, I'm mad that since Aldridge left and his quickie patch job, his only meaningful trade has been when economics forced him to trade a starting center for a substitute one, an easy trade. A normal GM is self-motivated to make trades, including starters. This guy sits on his ass all year, self-contented, scouting colleges but not working the phones seeking trades.

I've said this before but this summer will be very telling. If once again he doesn't do much in terms of improving the roster then I will start to agree with you but he likely won't have a job at that point anyway. We know that he wants to keep the backcourt together. That doesn't make him lazy. You are certainly entitled to your opinion that he should split them up. However, the two of them make a good percentage of the cap so it makes other moves very difficult. He had a limited time to make moves with cap space and didn't do well that summer but we also don't know how much of that was Paul Allen telling him to keep the RFA's. It's not an excuse but most GM's had a bad summer that year too. It still doesn't make sense to me why a GM who up until that point was so meticulous about not taking on bad contracts or long term money would all of a sudden do just the opposite. That is why I truly believe it was mostly Allen telling him to do so and why he still has his job for now. Now after that summer didn't work he has to duck the tax line which he has succeeded in doing. Next year the tax line seems unavoidable so we'll see if he "sits on his ass" this summer.

Miami's situation is bad, but they're not really at $144M. That includes Bosh's medical retirement which doesn't actually count against the cap/tax at this point.

They'll be near $120M with 11 guys under contract.
Trailblazers will be about $115M with 11 guys under contract.

They're in almost the exact same spot as we are.

I wasn't aware that they finally got it approved, but even at that, they are still over 120mil with a lesser roster than us and Riley is suppose to be a genius. We should sign Bosn to a non guaranteed contract and play him in the preseason and a few games in the regular season and screw Miami over like Memphis did to us.

Although he's not exactly what we need, Rudy Gobert was the best player in that series, proving the importance of locking down the paint. He forced Russ to adjust his entire game because he took away his driving lanes.

Whiteside could potentially bring that here, along with Zach, this could be a scary duo.

Having said that, I wouldn't give up core players for him: Dame/CJ/Zach.

The league is going away from the slow, big centers that can't make plays away from the basket. Nurk and Whiteside are dudes that are getting left behind in the era of Capella, Green and Davis.

That being said, Whiteside is a dude I'd trade for if they would take back a Meyers & Harkless package. That's wishful thinking though.
