To Portland: Iman Shumpert | filler

To New York: Wesley Mathews | 2013 2nd rounder

Iman's defense is the big reason why I'd make this deal. He also has the skillet that IMO Neil is looking for in a SG to put along side Lillard. Having played PG in college, he is a capable passer to allow Lillard to play off the ball.

Shumpert was on the block at the deadline. I think it's a solid deal for both sides.

In a heartbeat. NEXT!!

Yea I would, i'm a big fan of Shumpert and he would be a great defender to place next to Lillard going foward.

The contracts don't match at all. This deal isn't even possible. Can we at least try to keep Imaginary Trade Land threads realistic this summer?

Every idea that pops into the same 3 or 4 posters' heads isn't thread-worthy. There is no "filler" that NY has that makes this trade possible.

What is the filler? Steve Novak at $4m for 3 years and Jason Kidd at $3m for 2 years?.

Find the fucking trade before putting your latest lame idea into a new thread titled "Wouldja?".

Let's recap some of the more insane ideas in this forum

Aldridge for Monroe
Aldridge for Larry Sanders and JJ Redick
Wesley Matthews for Iman Shumpert
Make Lillard the SG

Why do you guys have a fascination with trading better players for worse players?
Why do you guys want to move the future best player on the team out of his natural position?

Are there any logical thoughts here anymore?

Personally, I'd rather have people starting conversations in the slow part of the year than have people stifling them and calling them lame. I've never understood this type of behavior. This post is such a waste of time that PapaG has to take the time to berate it?!?

Yes, when I see the same clutter on the boards year after year during the offseason, I am going to comment on how stupid I think the thread is. Plus, you haven't posted in two weeks, yet you actually took time to comment on my post. Seems like maybe I'm getting some conversation going for you? This trade isn't even realistic if you look at the NYK roster.

This thread didn't even have a specific title. I've long advocated a Sticky Thread for stupid trade ideas. If that insults you, I really don't give a fuck. I'm insulted by the same 3 or 4 posters posting the same stupid and unrealistic things over and over again.

Thanks for dropping by and putting in your two cents. It tells me you care. See you in another two weeks...

The proposal isn't outrageous like some are making it out to be. But, its not very probable.

There were a grand total of......wait for it.....FOUR threads started today! If I ran this board, I'd be more worried about lack of activity right now than clutter. But go ahead and get all riled up if you need to, PapaG!

Wouldja, though? That's the question, even if it isn't realistic!

I think I'd lean towards keeping Wes. If you take Shumpert, you've got to take a crappy contract with him to make the deal work. Then, once Shumpert's rookie deal is done, you're probably going to have to pay him a good deal more. I'll take Wes and a roster spot.

You have to take on TWO crappy contracts, looking at the Knick roster. The only two that fit within the 125% are Kidd and Novak. Who wants either of them? Kidd has a 5.3 PER in these playoffs and is DONE, and Novak is Luke Babbit with a better shot, but without worst everything else.

The money works with just Novak as filler, so leave Jkidd out of the equation.

Personally I like Wes more than others and think Shumpert is never going to be quite as good, so I don't do the trade on principal.

But I like how this thread got completely off track with trolling.

Shumpert is a perfect fit for the Blazers. He's already had his first knee surgery.

I believe Matthews to be much more valuable than his statistics. He's tough, fearless, doesn't make stupid mistakes, is a hard-nosed defender, and can hit the clutch three at a pretty high rate. I'm not completely against trading him, but if we do, the player we bring back better bend the shit out of the needle.

Hmmm, financials aside, this is a tough one. Iman gives you better ball-handling and probably better on-ball defense. Without looking at stats I get the feeling they're about equal as shooters, with Iman taking more stupid shots. Wes is certainly the smarter player. Wes is also a locker room leader. Seems mostly like a lateral move. We'd be gaining better ball-handling, but giving up valuable intangibles. So I guess after writing this I'd have to say no.
Once you add in speculation (how would Iman adjust going from NY to PDX?) and realities (additional contracts), as well as "fit" with Lillard/Nic I come down even harder on the "no" side. Though I do recognize that Iman has the potential to make this trade go from a lateral trade to a big win for Portland. And so that's why I think it's an interesting idea that at least deserves some deeper thought if it were actually on the table.

So you're paying Steve Novak $4m/year over 3 years to get Iman Shumpert?

I'm not seeing as how I said I'd decline the trade...

Just pointing out that the only 'filler' needed in the original post is Novak, and wondering why the post needed to become all about

instead of debating the principals of the original trade suggestion of Wes for Shumpert.

You are a time bomb ticking away. Do you keep a gun? Please bury it.
