WTF? Hawes to Clips for 4 yrs/23 mil?

Keep in mind both offered more money than the MLE. Not much more but still more. In the clippers case 2 million more. Phoenix.......we are not sure what they offered with their cap space.

Hawes got the MLE with the requisite 4.5% annual raises that equal out to the total contract amount.

5.305 - 1st year
5.544 - 2nd year
5.793 - 3rd year
6.326 - 4th year
= $23 Million

Still don't like the Kaman signing, but at least we tried to offer Hawes the MLE. Can't make players sign here. But this is why cap space in 2015 means nothing. When's the last big FA to sign in Portland? Strick in 92?

If this is true this is a huge disappointment and a blow to Blazer organization. This was the Blazers top FA target. Hawes even expressed interest in Ptd.

Sadly I think MM was correct , players don't want to play in Ptd unless they are overpaid. We basically had to overpay Kaman to play here ( paid more this year than what Lakers paid him last yr and no other teams interested). Olshey probably wondering what he got himself into coming to Ptd.

Maybe Blazers should think about trading LA if this offseason is indicative of FA signings in Ptd.
Bollocks. They made a bigger offer than we did. You can are that we should have offered more, but to conclude that free agents wouldn't sign here if our offer was the highest is just silly.

You sir were right. If I gave you shit for mocking us believers . . Well I don't apologize because after all
You are MM and who else can I give shit to. :)

But right you were

Happy 4th

I like shit.....in the sassy talk way. :)

Could have been a variety of things. The Clippers are trying to do a sign and trade to get him more money. Could be NO didn't want to part with what the Cavaliers would have wanted. Maybe we wanted to preserve our cap space and didn't want to offer him a 4 year deal. Maybe Hawes liked the idea of playing for Doc or with Chris Paul. Or maybe Hawes lied when he said he was very interested in playing here. Whatever. Time to move along.

Re: WTF? Kamam to Clips for 4 yrs/23 mil?

We shouldn't give a shit about Hawes honestly

Not a big deal to me

I agree with you that it's not a big deal. People just need to bitch for reasons that are probably not blazer related.

So hawes passed on us. Those of you bitching about the blazers missing can now stop. Unless you're delusional.. then carry on and party hardy.

bush's pep-bitch or the wannabe kraut? I'll take the one I have to put up with for the shortest period of time . . .

Clippers offers MLE??

Now that Hawes says he will sign, clippers looking to do sign and trade.

Kaman signed for less last year for Lakers being one yr younger and not having any kind of notable yr with the Lakers.

I can't believe I have now fallen on side of believing Ptd not being desirable place for players . . . I feel what MM goes through having an unpopular opinion.

I'll just say that we simply disagree on this issue.

I do question how posters say they don't want to pay for Hawes when while he was available the talk was how well he fit into Stotts system and how lucky the Blazer would be to get him for the MLE and not one poster mentioned Kaman but now think he is a great addition to the bench . . . In the end I will rooting for a player I couldn't stand before he came here.

I don't even know what this means.

Kaman played for the German national team.

Hawes is an outspoken conservative.

One sported a "God Bless George W. Bush" bumper sticker while the other obtained german citizenship based on his great-grandparents country of birth (so he could play on their national team). Couple of goof balls, either way . . .

Got it. Thanks for clearing it up!

I thought I read somewhere that 4 years MLE we're going for 21 mil. Thanks for clarifying

Small markets have to draft or trade for their long-term core players.

Which is one reason why I was a huge fan of the Monroe stuff.

Hope he gets the shit booed out of him when they come up here. You can't make this up though, the resident redneck tea party guy in the nba signs with the team that was just all over the news for having a racist owner, that's pretty funny.

Be honest. If it was you and had to pick between Portland's weather, marketing opportunities and relatively thin roster, or playing in the second biggest market, with great weather a loaded roster and probably a future HOF coach, which would you choose?

We couldn't offer that much money. Why are you guys bitching?

Well, technically, we did offer that much. But people wanted to blame Neil and the Blazers for not going after Hawes... but now that the cat is out of the bag, they are all going to retreat. And I will enjoy it.

Cat out of the bag? What cat? I've been partying so I'm not up to speed

So it looks like Neil went after his Plan B quickly which I respect. It does concern me that Portland can't get what most would consider a higher quality FA for the same price. Cap space is only useful if you can get players to come. Who is the last quality FA to come here?
