Perhaps Chinese basketball fans don't think Jeremy Lin deserves to go to the All star game? Crazy thought I know.

there's 1.35B chinese, aka nearly 20% of the world - and this is for the 'World Championship' right? seems fair.
Donald hasn't learned yet...they built the biggest wall on the planet and it didn't stop the Mongolian hordes from conquering themYeah, this is Merica dad gummit...I bet when the Donald takes office, we won't see no dad gum foreign language around here. Build that damn wall.
NBA has the same thing...World Champion Golden State Warriors...it's actually ridiculous...in a fair world, the Warriors need to now beat Tonga, and reach the Polynesian finals before they complete the World domination tourDo we call it the world championship in the NBA? I thought baseball was the only sport that still used the word "World."

yup, the world in the NBA/MLB etc sense is 320m people.
although, USA as a team are the current FIBA world champs.
To be fair, what other country is even remotely as good at basketball or baseball? Our country is SO good at baseball that the Olympics had to terminate softball as an event. We dominated the field. American football is another sport that no other country could even remotely compete in.

I see it more as a merchandising opportunity than a "nice gesture". Houston has a ton of Chinese fans and they are all going to want to buy these. That's why they did it.It's Chinese New Year. It was Monday but celebrations last for over a week. There is a sizable Chinese population in Houston. I think it's a nice gesture.
