anyone here do xbox fixes? i dont really want to pay microsoft 99 bucks to get mine fixed and i dont really feel comfortable leaving my xbox at a guys house for a half hour while he fixes it and me not be able to be there watching him.... anyone do this before? or get it done off of craigslist with success?

I've had to send mine to Xbox twice. The first time it cost me $$ but the good thing is that they extend your warranty after they fix it, so the second time was free and they ended up sending me a new/different xbox because they couldnt fix it.

I've had a few friends take their xbox to peoples houses to fix via craigslist and both had issues. I wouldnt do it.

i had someone fix mine in salem and watched him do it...tho it broke about a year later lol

RROD?

Microsoft extended the warranty of most of its units. You might want to log onto xbox.com and put your serial# into their thing to see if they will cover your unit.

If it is some other problem you're better off sending it to Microsoft regardless because as someone has already said they will give you a warranty.

There is a chance they will send you a refurbished unit.

I've sent two Xbox's in for RROD and both times they were pretty quick getting them back to me, a couple of weeks. Warranty covered both.

I've sent my Xbox (RRoD) back to Microsoft and they sent me a new one within two weeks, no fee charged.

yeah if its RROD even past the warranty they are accepting those.

not RROD its just freezing either within 5 seconds of turning it on or 5 minutes into a game

I've heard of people covering it in towels and hairdryer going to cause the RRoD:devilwink:

IIRC my first Xbox would freeze up and that was just a precursor to the RROD.

If the problem is overheating than perhaps you have dust built up inside the Xbox. If you take some compressed air and gently clean the fans/vents then gently vacuum it out you may be able to get the temperature down.

There are lots of guides on YouTube for Xbox problems as well.
