^^^^ Exactly 59, I wonder how there fan base wished they would have signed McCann or an Ellsbury or both. You know Texas wanted him. Imagine if Tampa Bay had even a little money considering how they develop talent. And all our franchise did and will continue to do is keep value to a 3.3 billion dollar business model. So yes, nobody is worth the money these players are making however if signing these types keeps the YES membership up, Puts more asses in the seat, increases their licensing revenue, and maintains the 3.3 billion dollar brand, then the difference is chump change.

...yup, and sadly some people talk out both sides of their mouths...they like to point to the lack of young talent on the farm but then ridicule FA moves...and why?, because they "overpaid". Most all FAs get "over paid" because that's how the market works and why they are FAs in the first place.
...would it be nice if the Yanx were able to field a PS team every year with home grown players?...of course, but it's not realistic and not how things go in Yankee land.

...Attendance was down last year for obvious reasons and they are trying to remedy that...not 5 years from now, but right NOW.

I applaud this move, you need nits and nats to get on base so the lions and tigers can drive them in. Should consider Reynolds as well in case the team pharmacist gets his vacation.

Johnson is lousy. He is a .230 hitter. If you was great against lefties or righties you might platoon him. However, this is not the case. He generally hits for a low average against both.

LOL! I actually stated that Kelly Johnson was a good move, and think he will be good. My issue with McCann and Ellsbury is the deals they got - not the players. Knowing that the Yankees have many holes, I do not take the 'one-off' view of how the Yankees go about spending. Like I have posted in another thread - if you take the $253M they have committed to Ellsbury and McCann - would you prefer that over Cano for $200M, Salty for $21M, and still have $30M+ to spend on other FAs.

I was all for the CC and Tex moves in 2009 because the team was relatively complete, and these 2 guys addressed 2 areas of need that put them over the top. As such - overpaying for those guys was not a problem IMO. But now? The 2013 Yankees are nowhere as a complete a team from a roster standpoint than the 2008 Yankees were - spending this $$$ on 2 guys, perhaps risking losing the team's best player is risky, and still having all these other holes (400-550 innings in the rotation, 3B, etc.).

I think your point would be better served if you focus on Ellsbury because the McCann move needed to be done and does a lot, imo, for the time between now and Sanchez' arrival. Romine, Murphy or Cervelli could net you a nice return as chips. I would turn around and move one of them for prospects almost immediately.

I like Ellsbury, a lot. But I don't like that the Yanks are here taking a hard stance and nickel and dining an elite player like Cano and turn around and offer big money and years to a non-elite player like Ellsbury. Fact is, had Cano been leaving the Red Sox with those high demands, the Yanks would likely have met them by now. That is also not to say that I support a deal meeting Cano's insane demands but the Ellsbury deal now makes a harder argument for a stance against them.
