...I can't imagine anyone else getting it considering Trout is having a hard time lately and the fact that the Angels may not even make the PS.

...of course Jeter put up a .343 .417 .483 .900 slash line in 2006 but they still gave the MVP to Morneau.

Donaldson is 3-3 tonight. Just unconscious right now.
 
Again I've gotta ask, what the hell was Beane thinking? I mean you can't keep getting rid of players once they start producing.

If I'm not mistaken, not only did MLB/AL screw Jeter over in 06, and handed the MVP to a player, who was but one of 3, from the same Team (Twinkies); in the vote for MVP, Morneau, Santana, and Mauer....

IMO, giving an MVP trophy to any Twinkie in 06, (which did have some damn fine players) BUT- (to paraphrase) my understanding of the MVP criteria, is: If one subtracts a player; ONE player from the Roster, then the Team itself would flounder much worse without the player, on the roster of His Team, or would NOT have the success provided by that one player.

I still don't see how any team can put up 3 players for the MVP, it doesn't make sense IMO, and is contrary to the Award itself.....

In the early going of September, the much maligned bottom of the lineup is (so far) stepping up.
As we all know, a couple of HOT hitters anywhere in the lineup could be the difference and come one, come all!
Gregorius appears to have arrived. Would be surprised and obviously very disappointed if he falls apart in this final month and if Drew has ONE good month left in him- now is as good a time as any.

Bird is going to get his baptism under fire and the kid has a chance to prove himself....we could, maybe, possibly be seeing the beginning of something good.
He WILL BE getting his "test" - lol

I don't want to single anyone out and put extra pressure on them but, if Ellsbury turns it on, the Yankee offense at this point - imo - will stabilize and be so much more consistent.

Pretty solid 1 & 2 tandem there with McCann as mentor. From what I understand the Yankees staff thinks pretty highly of Murphys game calling. And he is coming along with the bat.
 
A-rod needs to regain what he had the first few months of the season also

...he knew he was not gonna be able to resign Donaldson or pay him what he'd be awarded in arbitration anyway, so he got as much in return for him while his value was at its highest.

...Oakland does not have near the payroll limits or flexibility that Toronto does...he made the smart move and got value in return..

I think A-Rod is maybe running out of gas, and needs to gain a 2nd wind....His paltry August with the bat was about .156 or so, .......

He looks tired, His stamina looks like he's on empty; (hope not tho').......IMO.........and of course with 2 yrs off, even tho' he was working out off the field, there is no substitute for the real game......

Got my GM hat on and firing up the old memory bank.

Thus far it looks like a nice two-fold maneuver by the "Yankees" when they traded Cervelli for Wilson and opening up the backup catcher's spot giving Murphy the opportunity.

Wilson has done a good job in his role throughout the season helping out in the bullpen.

As Flash pointed out during the game today he's not catching up to the fastball like he was earlier in the year. So it looks like he has to start his swing earlier and he's terribly out in front of the off speed stuff. Without Tex right now they can certainly use a solid September out of him. We will see if he has anything left.

I follow that Ron but if he keeps doing this with every good player that comes to arbitration he'll never field a winning product.
 
Speaking of GMs, looking forward to watching how the A.L. East unfolds with a new GM in Beantown. Yanks could be looking for a good young 2b to play along side Gregorius.
I wonder if Cashman will call Boston?

Yep, he could be hitting the wall -
There'll be location mistakes and hanging curveballs from pitchers, and he'll grab a hold of a few more.....as long as his wheels and body hold up.
Batting average may dip, but he should also still get a fair share of walks.

Funny, all we heard was Montero, Romine and Sanchez. And it's been Murphy and Cervelli that ended up being legit backstops.

Sanchez like Judge has shown power in the minors. He's only 22 so we will hopefully see how that translates on the MLB level in the next couple of years.

...rick, again, because of payroll restrictions, Beane has been forced to take this approach for years and for the most part, it's worked. It's how the term "Money Ball" came to be.
...he can't afford to give out big contracts so he has to smartly rebuild from within his own farm system or acquire good prospects via the trade market...and he has.
