Yet another VC to Portland Rumor (7:46 EST) (1 Viewer)

We still have Channing. When he's gotten minutes, he's been decent. We also have Ruffin the Banger.

Ruffin has not played a single minute this year, and his pathetic excuse of a career is now behind him.

That still leaves him ahead of Sergio in defensive efficiency this year, no?

That's the dumbest one I've seen yet.

Basically it boils down to Raef for 2 guys who will never get off our bench, and 20+ years of rising talent for 1-3 years of nose-diving talent.

Funny how Carter has managed to convert both Toronto and NJ from playoff teams to lottery teams in such a short time.

The guy is truly a team-killer.

Oh you mean like where the Raptors nose dived after he left and he went to the finals as a Net? Yeah that's terrible.

Some people would find a way to dump on a Blazers RLEC for LeBron trade.

Vince Carter is no LeBron James.

He may play in the same league, but he's not in the same league.

Like comparing margarine to butter.:tsktsk:

vince wouldn't make as much sense or fit as well as any of the other sfs brought up here, but i could still see a deal like that being good for portland. as long as vince is willing to take a backseat to roy and share the ball with aldridge/oden, this deal improves portland for now. then the question is just what he has left in the tank.

Vince never went to the finals. He was traded to them 2 years after their finals appearance - but did make them better for a couple of years compared to what they were the year he was traded.

NJN went down the tubes because Kidd was becoming disinterested/too old/lost a step.

Vince was actually pretty decent for them.

I know, but I still don't see how he wouldn't have a spot on the team as a guy to develop. Ager is the guy we cut if this trade went through. Ager is garbage

Oh I think he is a decent prospect and he wouldn't be cut. I sort of like his game.

Sure he is. They're both in the NBA. AND play in it. C'mon MARIS, you know this.

This is god awful for the Nets.

Not if the Nets' goal is to get massively below the cap for summer 2010 ... Outlaw is no Vinsanity, but he will fill it up for Memphis if given the green light, and Sergio is a passable backup for Harris.

This is actually a good deal for NJ. They get a bunch of space under the trade cap, plus two young and promising players in Outlaw and Rodriquez. I can see why they'd do it, and I can also see why the Blazers would do it. Could be a good deal for both teams.

But of course, don't forget the #1 rule of any trade: whoever gets the best player, gets the best end of the deal. In this case, it's Portland.

I disagree with you, and here is why. Carter has a couple years left on his contract, and career. If you look at Nicolus Batum, what do you think he needs to become a starting quality SF? He needs a few years of experience, at the very least. By the time Carter is ready to head to the twilight, Batum should be ready to start playing high level ball at both ends of the court. Secondly, now in practice, Batum will be guarding Vince Carter every day. What do you think that will do for his defense?

Now when you top it off with the fact he can take a load off of Roy, who has been carrying way to heavy of a load for this team in order to have a nice long career, and the boost to the offense Vince will bring, and then top it off with the ability to actually finish with authority on fast breaks (Team is screaming for that aspect), I don't see how it can be a loser.

The Nets already have Dooling, who is MORE than passable.

Travis Outlaw is nice, but he's best utilized as a 6th man, yes?

CDR is still a good prospect. Take Williams.

Getting under the cap in 2010 won't help the Nets if no one wants to come there.

Well, as a Jerseyite I can tell you than no one wants to come there.

Outlaw will be just fine as a 2nd option on offense after Harris. Outlaw is an effective basketball player when you play him to his strength - which is scoring. He is not an effective player when you try to use him for rebounding/defense/passing - that's why he was never succesful in Portland in the starting unit - because he had to defer to Roy/Aldridge and even Oden when they did try to go into the post to him.

If it's VC out and Outlaw in - the Nets will have no problems giving their #2 scoring option to Outlaw - and he would be fine starting there while they bide their time for the summer of "shit, we really thought we could get Bron".

i don't think you disagree with me then. i said the deal would be good for portland. as vince declines, batum hopefully would be ready to step up(not sure where this leaves webster though).

i just don't think it's as good as a fit as acquiring butler, prince, or wallace would be(i would rather the blazers acquire vince than rjeff). those 3 guys all player better defense, two of the three should have absolutely no problems fitting in on offense(wallace and prince), and all three fit in much better agewise with the blazer core. instead of vince who would be moving out of the way as the other blazers peak, those 3 guys would(well should) still be playing at high levels during that time.

Not exactly. He's best utilized as a first or second option, when he's been inserted into the starting lineup as a starter and asked to become the 4th or 5th option he's not very effective. Travis, if given a greenlight to shoot (either as a 6th man or starter) can do a passable job of scoring.

Anyway don't shoot the messenger, who knows if this deal even goes down.

This is god awful for the Nets.
of course it is. it's a terrible deal for the nets as a basketball deal. if the nets were to agree to a deal like this it would be because they wanted to dump vince's salary while still getting some decent talent back. if dumping vince isn't something that nets management wants to do, then obviously this deal isn't going to happen.

Making it up as you go along again. :tsktsk:

After tasting the playoffs as a rising new team, they fell to the cellar for the next 4 straight years with Carter as their leader.

Then he jumped to the Nets, who had been in the playoffs for 4 years at the time, and road their talented squad for 4 years until he has now dropped them into the cellar in the same manner.

Factor in that he's basically a loafer who's only played 82 games twice in his 12 seasons, and it's pretty hard to find a silver lining.

How is Outlaw as a slasher?

Can he create offense? That's Carter's biggest asset to the Nets. Devin Harris CANNOT cut it as the primary creator without another very good creator next to him.
80% of his shot attempts come from outside 7 feet.

that doesn't mean he never slashes though. he really likes the midrange shots off the dribble.

I think that Carter would be gone anyway if they could get pre-2010 expirings for him, since JayZ wants LBJ in Brooklyn.

Travis is one of three blazers who can iso (Roy and Bayless) and either drive (which he has improved at) or get off his jumper ... which he ALWAYS gets off because of his 40" vertical and high release.

Travis does have issues on defense, often losing focus, but if you want scoring he'll give you that and then some. I'm guessing he'd easily put up 18 points a night if he got 35 minutes a night and the greenlight to shoot.

From ESPN:

POSTED: Feb. 18 -- 8:58 p.m. ET

Chris Broussard: It looks like it's Portland or bust for Vince Carter, according to a person with knowledge of the trade talks surrounding New Jersey's star forward.

"It's looking like it's going to be head-to-head between Carter and Richard Jefferson," the person said. "I think Jefferson's going to be the one who goes to Portland."

While Carter may be the better player, Portland's concerned with Carter's age (he turned 32 last month) and the three years, $51 million left on his contract (though only $4 million of the $18 million in his final season is guaranteed).

The Nets have their own concerns about Carter's contract and that's why they've been shopping him. They've spoken with San Antonio, Houston and Dallas but nothing has come of those talks.

Travis Outlaw is a second option 20 win team.

Depends on who you have on the team next to him - cause that kid can score. But that's most of what he can do.

If you ask him to be a volume scorer - he would do - and being a 20 win team with a high-draft-pick for the year of the "oh shit, we really thought we could get Bron" is not bad for them.

Can he create offense? That's Carter's biggest asset to the Nets.

That's probably Travis' biggest strength. He won't create offense for others, but for himself, he's pretty good. Of course, he can score 20-25 points but in the +/-, it could be a -15 because he can give a lot defensively.

But if you just want instant offense, TO is your guy. And also he doesn't have the mindset to be a starter, he's better as a sixth man.

Carter made the playoffs 3 out the 7 years he was with the raptors. After nosediving and getting a high draft pick the raptors rebounded in 06-07 with Chris Bosh. As a Net Carter went to the playoffs 3 out of the 4 seasons he was with the team and this year is still up in the air.

Nice try.

Travis, Sergio, LeBron James for VC Ager and CDR
is a terrible deal? Absolutely not, that is the deal they are hoping to get.

how about a more realistic travis, sergio, and a 10% chance at lebron two years from now for vince, ager, and cdr?

The Nets Brooklyn move is going to be cancelled for a few years. The Nets owner, Bruce Ratner lost his ass in this economic crisis. All his money is tied up in NY/NJ real estate.

This matches up with everything we've been hearing/reading/seeing the last 12 hours.

I disagree with that one GM who claims Jefferson is better for Portland, though. Vince right now is a better player despite his age.
