Yi Held Scoreless as Australia Beats China

It would obviously be ludicrous for us to evaluate him based on two Olympic tune-up games, but the way he performed last season as the year went on combined with these early showings are cause for concern, not necessarily because of the lackluster box scores but because of the observations of going through the motions and playing uninspired basketball.

His effort on the court has been pathetic and that to me is a real worry. Of course we all hoping he'll turn into a star but with his attitude I am becoming less and less convince he can get there. I've said it before, it's ok to have bad games. Kobe has bad games, Lebron and even Jordan. However one thing they don't do is quit TRYING and COMPETING. I am going to the Olympics and will be there for CNT games against the US and Germany. If Yi gives the same efforts as he did against Australia, he'll be hearing it from me in the stands that's for sure.</div>

where are you come from ?but i don’t have ticket..

Yi won't get my vote until he becomes a 20/10 player. As for the people in mainland China, they conducted a poll last year on one of the Chinese basketball website, and more than 75% of people said they wouldn't vote for him. That was during the stretch where he put up 29/10, 22/7 etc. So I think most people are waiting for him do something in the NBA before voting him onto the AS team. If anything I think Asian fans in the US will be more incline to vote for him judging by the heated discussions that I had with some fans on other forums last season.

BTW Yao Ming actually receive more votes from people attending the games then online. The year he beat Shaq to the WCF starting center position Shaq actually had more online votes.

One thing is for certain, if Vince Carter has a good year he'll definitely get voted into the AS game for sure. He is still hugely popular there.

Not China. Anyway the basketball tickets are like a lottery. When the tickets went on sale the draw wasn't enough made yet, so nobody had an idea who would be playing where. I basically just bought the night session tickets. Team USA feature in this session for all their group games while China feature twice. Not a bad result.

Yeah that was complete speculation on my part, due to his popularity I assumed he would have gotten consideration over better players if such a situation were to arise. That's very interesting regarding the poll outcome that you mentioned, I think thats encouraging that his performance still will dictate whether or not he will be chosen despite how strongly many people will be pulling for his success. I just found it to be an interesting scenario..

Yeah I could see Vince getting a lot of votes similar to the way that McGrady's jersey has been topping sales lists over there (or at least it was at one point from what I read).

A lot of Chinese fans are conditioned to accept foreign athletes. The NBA is using Lebron as their advertising campaign focus, not Yao.

Anyway, the CNT was embarrassed today. We can blame fatigue, or the coach. That team is just messed up.

LOL, maybe Wang ZhiZhi was smart when he abandoned the CNT one summer to train for the NBA. Too bad it didn't give him any better results... just sad.

Kind of off topic but say the Olympics werent taking place this year. Would Yi have played summer league ball for us or would he have had obligations to the Chinese team (assuming it's not a FIBA year as well, of course)..
