You Be the GM

Since you have all the answers... can you give me even 1 trade not involving CJ that will turn this team into a contender... all I’m asking for is 1... I’m waiting
I just mentioned the rights to Jonah Bolden.

I really like Khyri Thomas in the draft. I also think there are several potential high risk/high reward players in the 20's or early 30's that I would swing for the fences with. I love Mikal Bridges on this current team but unless NY wants to dump a ton of salary and give us the 9th pick for doing so that dream is unrealistic.

So Jonah Bolden or Khyri Thomas is gonna come in and take minutes from Mo Harkless and Zach Collins as rookies and this is a better team?! Hahahaha! Haha!

So Donovan Mitchell didn't help out Utah this year?

Nothing is going to make us a contender next session.

Just repost 1 of them here that will make this team better than even the Pelicans... so I’m setting bar low for you
Trick question, we already have a better roster than the Pelicans. Firing Stotts is the answer.

There was a giant hole in there starting lineup at SG... there were minutes for the taking... also Mitchell was a lotto pick... you are comparing apples to oranges

I’d be ok seeing what a new coach could do, even tho I don’t think any coach could make CJ pass... unfortunately Stotts will never be fired because he is a nice guy

Give me the winning lotto numbers so I can move and be a Blazer season ticket owner.

CJ did say he was going to work on his passing this offseason. He said he has to get better at the pick and role. That's a good thing.

Between Bolden, Thomas, another pick in the mid 20's, other trades, and the tax-MLE I believe there would be ways to make this team much better. If just one of the 3 rookies is a home run then we are looking pretty good. Bolden has been playing professionally so he wouldn't be a typical rookie. There is just as good of a chance of that happening as whatever draft pick we get being better than Dame.

To add to this, if a guy like Khyri Thomas turns out to be really good then THAT allows us to trade CJ to balance the roster because we would already have his replacement and could just take the best deal. In most of your proposals are SG and SF situation would be worse than it is now and having bad wing play is something I think we can all agree with is hard to overcome.

Blazers could give a team #24 and the still wouldn’t take Turner
His problem is more or less how much he makes not how good he is. He’s a decent defender, his 3 pointer is ugly but the % went up, and he does have a decent post game too. I don’t think it’s likely anyone takes him while he’s making that much, but if he was making Moe Harkless money our perception of him would be totally different.

True... unfortunately Neil gave him 18 mil per when there was no competition for his services

I don’t get when teams do this type of thing, sports are about competing with the other teams / players out there not yourself. It’s like when some GM in football decides to take a flyer on some guy in the 1st or second round that would’ve been there in the 4th. Except in this case you could’ve got ET for probably 4-5m less a year (maybe more). Or Meyers Leonard for like Lochness Monster(that’s $3.50) type money but... we’ve been over this a million times.

Ya, when the player himself calls his buddy and says can you believe what they offered...well that is a problem. And his buddy, Andre Iguodala, told him to take it now and run. Even they thought it was a joke...well it was. Unfortunately the joke was on us.

This story every time I see it, or hear it, just sucks....

As most of you know, I don't think Portland is as close as Portland does. Adding playoff caliber guys simply to get to the second round does nothing for me, so if I were GM, I'd take a shot at a difference maker. It will take some fortune and luck, but here goes.

I like Stotts, but if I were GM, I'd make a change. I believe in Becky Hammon. She would be my choice.

I would not re-sign Nurkic, Napier, Layman, Connaughton or Papaiannis.

Trade CJ McCollum, Zach Collins and #24 to SA for Kawhi Leonard. They probably say no, but we're pretending anyway, so why not?

Sign someone like Ellington, Barton or Evans. For the purpose of a roster, I'll use Ellington.

Re-sign Davis

Sign Mbah a Moute

Sign a center....Noel? O'Quinn?

Move Harkless for a lower 1st and draft Troy Brown from Oregon

Dame / Baldwin
Ellington / Brown
LeonarD / Turner
Mbah a Moute / Aminu / Caleb
O'Quinn / Davis

Fill out the roster.

I think this roster would be more versatile than last years, and have guys able to guard multiple positions

It may backfire, but at least I'd take my shot

Don't kill me if it's cap unfriendly

I appreciate that you gave it a shot when others just say something (what?) needs to be done but it definitely won't work under the cap (which it looks like you figured) and that is part of being a GM.

I wouldn't get the job as the GM most likely as I think this team needs a retool (not a rebuild) instead of trying to go for it this year. I think we still need this off-season and next off-season of drafts still before we go trading picks to get vets.

I wouldn't move CJ unless it was getting great value for him. Any trade of him would also send Meyers out. I think this is unlikely so I think I am keeping CJ. If there is a deal to be made I think it is most likely with Cleveland but outside of their pick and Love I don't have any interest. Unless LeBron leaves I think they say no thanks. I would revisit CJ deals at the deadline as their may be better offers then.

I would definitely resign Nurkic. I would also like to resign Ed Davis but more as a luxury then a must.

I am NOT giving up picks to get rid of Leonard or Turner. Next summer they will be easy to move and a team may even give up a 2nd to take on their expiring deals.

I am looking for versatile defenders on the 2nd unit. I know it would seem contradictory but I would move Aminu in the right deal (because unless I am firing my coach he REFUSES to put Aminu on the 2nd unit where I would like him).

I don't see guys who make right about 13 MIL as great options for the TPE. They are pretty MEH players. I would only use it on one if the team also sent me a 1st round pick. If I get another pick (in addition to ours) then I am combining both to move up. Or at the very least trying to move up a couple spots plus get a 2nd out of my two 1sts. I don't want two guaranteed contracts in all cases. It would depend on the players I come out with.

For the Tax Payer MLE if I could get Will the Trill to give up a bunch of money (unlikely) then he is obviously the 1st choice. Don't see it happening though. So I move on to someone like Wayne Ellington or Joe Harris. Hezonja if he doesn't get a bigger offer (but I think he will).

I would only bring back Napier and Pat-Con if I needed to fill out a couple roster spots. Otherwise they can walk if they get better offers. I am not bringing back Layman at all. Papa is intriguing if I don't bring back Ed.

I believe in Zach and would not look to get a PF to start over him unless it was an all-star like Love.

If you can get a guy like Luc Mbah a Moute for the vet minimum you jump on it but he is going to have pick of teams who can challenge for a ring so I move to a guy like Vince Carter (also may go ring shopping and I prefer defender) or Tony Allen at the vet minimum.

This (unfortunately) is a couple year process and can't be fixed with just this summer alone.
