making the play-in would be nothing less than a disaster for the future of this team. i can't bring myself to root for a loss and Nas/Ant getting better will inevitably net us some wins, but not enough to mean anything but getting the 10th seed and the 13th pick.

There are really only 3 guys worth maybe trying to lose games for in this years class, and even that is debatable because none of them are generational type prospects. They all have holes in their games you don’t see from the top top talents. And we’re not in a position right now to get any of them minus some miracle ping pong ball. Tanking is stupid anyway. Just look at the team we played tonight. How has losing helped them? How did it help the Sixers?

I mostly agree with you but Billy King's comments before the 2012 draft are rolling around my head right now

We can use our pick in a trade. Don't have to draft. If we did, I think Mathurin could be a good guard to go with Dame and Simons after we ship Norm and CJ for help elsewhere.
 
No way this team will tank to protect a draft pick. Billups wont go along with and either will Dame & CJ. The only way I see them purposely tanking is if they trade Dame before the deadline, which isn't happening.

Yeah but we’re on Dames timeline anyway for at least another year, so even if we did get a top 10 pick I think it’s more likely to be traded than kept. Actually, that could also make it more likely that CJ will stay here until the draft.

And wouldn't the 7th pick have more value than the 13th?
 
Let's just see what plays out over the 24 days and then see what we want this team to do. If no major moves are made then all hope is lost anyway, we will end up in the play-ins and hell Dame might be back to win our way into a first round sweep. However if a meaningful trade or a few of them make this roster much more functional then making the playoffs and having the new team get some experience with Dame might not be the worst thing... it will also mean all of our future picks would be freed up.
