Clearly we all want Deron Williams or Rajon Rondo, but that's not going to happen. Many want to trade for Nash, but that seems unlikely. So, if we were going to address our point guard problem with someone who's already in the league and might be attainable, who might that be?

My thoughts--We want someone relatively young, already productive, with a demonstrated ability to distribute, who isn't yet a full time starter.

This is a list of guards in the league who are 28 or younger and currently put up PER's of 15 or higher in under 30 mpg with ast% of 20 or higher. There are 15. Who on this list would be the best fit here, and who would be most reasonably attainable?

Mo Williams........ don't know if he fits your criteria, but I think his outside game would help our team.

Having trouble with the link. But I'm eyeing Calderon.

I think the Blazers look for an overpaid PG who still has game left and a team looking to dump a contract.

First link not working--try this:

In response to El Pres' "Steve Blake tier" comment--I'm specifically looking at players putting up numbers above the average starter's PER. I don't expect we can get a superstar, but I don't want mediocrity either.

In this list, CJ Watson intrigues me the most. Also, I'm surprised by the numbers Jordan Farmar is putting up--perhaps he's ready to be a starter now.

Nic would love Beubois, but that cat is a gunner!

I'll take Sessions.

I would have no problem with that. People around here have been wanting him for years. I figured we'd increase the pool.

Where does Mo Williams rank with these guys? Higher PER?

My first query eliminated him because he's 29 (I only went to 28). If I increase the age range, he shows up 11th in PER (16.0) out of the 16 results. 3rd highest overall FG% (behind Farmar and Lin), and the lowest AST% in the group.

Basically--like Mick says, he's more SG than PG.

I thought his all-star year in Cleveland, he was their starting PG?

He was, but he plays like a SG. Cleveland got away with it because Lebron would handle the ball.

breaking: none of these guys would be that much of an upgrade over what we have now.

George Hill would be good. but he pulled an Oden (self portrait) a few years back I believe so we can't touch him w/ a 10 foot pole.

A contest to make a lucky fan the new point guard would be an upgrade over Felton.

Okay, not really, but Felton has been terrible. Quite a few "decent" point guards would be large upgrades. I'd much, much rather have Sessions than Felton.

Augustin or Sessions. Augustin is the better scorer, Sessions is the better passer. Either would could be had for a reasonable price I believe as the Cats are going to let him go due to Kemba Walker's emergence. Sessions is Irving's backup.

Sergio or Luke would both be huge upgrades over Felton, and the kind of distributors and playmakers this team needs.

All it would take is a phone call, and a coach with a completely different idea of who is supposed to run the offense.

I'd take Sessions or Augustin for a year, or two until we can draft a PGotF

Was just in Indy where George Hill is currently playing and went to school. Everyone I talked to loves him there as a possible PGotF, moreso than Collison. His picture is plastered all over on bus stops around the city. I don't see them letting him go in RFA unless someone makes a big offer, and I think we should look into him if we can't get any other proven player.

The Nets appear to have 3 point guards better than any on our roster. Compare Williams to Farmar & Gaines. Their win shares/48 are all pretty much the same. Williams' PER is 2 points higher than the other two, but his usage rate is also 7 points higher.

Not that I'm saying that either of the other two are actually on Williams' level overall, but the drop-off for the Nets when he leaves may not be as big as is presumed--if they stay. Gaines is an RFA this summer, and Farmar has a player option. Either could be available.
