If you're on the side of not wanting Aminu back, then I think backup PF or at least some sort of combo SF/PF will need to be a priority in free agency or in trades.

Zach and Skal are both PF/C guys so our target needs to be more of a PF wing than a C big if we're trying to balance the lineup.

I disagree about defense and passing and both are around same level of scrub. Just Miller is a bit better fit due to his size. Role players with min contract both.
Well Curry has better defensive stats, and averages more assists per 36 minutes than Miller. There literally isnt one thing Miller does better than Curry.

Would you guys trade ET, Harkless, and Leonard for Porter if we had to take back Felicio too? He still has two years and $15.7 million left on his deal. It adds salary two years from now but saves us $6 million this year. We could maybe swap our pick 25 for their 38 too to sweeten it a little more if needed.

I like Porter but I'm not sure if I'd do that.
Yes I would. I'd even do it if we could only send ET and Harkless out.

Ok man you got your opinion i got mine. I don't see those more assists per 36 checking this years and i don't have in front of me the advanced D stats but anyway we are talking about average players so i don't have to go that deep.

Is M. Chriss worth consideration as an UFA. He feels like a NO type go get.
Also, I would love to have a chance at T. Ross.
How about Wilson Chandler?

Hes a hotheaded asshole. Doesnt seem like a NO type for that reasom alone.

If Aminu and Harkless are still our starting Forwards next Season i'm gonna lose my shit

Would it be a bad strategy to sign as many guys as possible to one year deals?

For example, if we signed Aminu and Layman to one year deals then we'd have two more expiring contracts to add to trades once they become eligible.

this would be a great strategy for Portland

offer max 2 year deals to Kanter, Hood, and Curry (tax-MLE-non-birds) with player option for the 2nd season (are player options allowed for that short a contract?). Then they could opt-out and be eligible for a 175% bump on a 1 (or more) year early-Bird in 2020

offer a 1 year deal to Aminu at 5-8M. Offer a 1 year deal to Layman at 2-4M.

Jody Allen pays a lot of tax though...maybe in the 30-35M range...too much?

trade the 25th pick for a future 1st and a 2nd or two. Then Portland could have 8 expiring contracts, some actually on good players, and their full quiver of 1st round picks +1. That's a decent asset base

Damn, if only we had that last year and acquired someone like Porzingis because of it. Hopefully this year will be the year we weren't just "close" on a trade.

Very likely in rotation:
Dame, CJ, Harkless, Collins, Nurk (eventually), ET

Might be in rotation (and why/why not):
Hood, Kanter, Curry (FAs without Bird)
Aminu (FA with Bird)
Layman (FA, but cheap)
Simons (talented, but still a noob)
Leonard (improved, but still error prone)

Likely not in rotation:
Skal, Trent (good, but low on totem pole)

Wild Cards:
Pick #25
FAs (vet min and other dorks)
Players Traded For (hard to predict)

Bolded are players I want in the rotation. I am somewhat bummed by the Otto Porter thing because it would mean getting an excellent player while also removing ET from the rotation. I am OK with Leonard and/or Skal in the rotation.

Your thoughts? would any of these players even consider to come to Portland with no Cap space and only exception.?

I think Thad young may be too old, but Id take him over Aminu, either of the Morris’, I was impressed with Garrett Temples defense in the playoffs.

Temple is tenacious defender.
I like Terrence Ross & Marcus Morris.

I could seriously see the Nuggets as a threat for Hood.

Silly post.

He just beat them and he won't start with Michael Porter Jr. coming back.

I bet Rodney Hood can't stand the Nuggets right now.

I liked this post but you missed Trading ET.

that's such an Olshey generated bullshit tweet. Yeah right, the only reason Portland was a "destination" for Moe, Bazz, and Hood is because they were traded to Portland. And after missing a year, it's very likely that Curry took the best offer last summer. Trying to hype the circumstances of those 4 players into Portland suddenly being a destination is some real wonky spin.

I'd also like to know how it is the Blazers could "target" players with just a vet minimum deal available to them. The tax MLE will almost certainly be used on Hood or Kanter. Guys like Mirotic and Danny Green will sign for more than the minimum

now, there are several players that will likely sign for a minimum this summer. Some are on that list

Think Wilson Chandler could be a good fit, decent defender, inside/out game. Seasoned vet and from everything Ive heard a team player.
I know he's getting up there in age but he's got miles left. he could be a good 1/2 year contract guy?

I didn't get that from it. I got that those are the players that revived their careers here, so now others might start looking here to do the same, as it has worked for those four, whether we were there intended destination or not. They revived their careers here and other players see that. And now here is a list of other players who might also want to revive thier careers and see Portland as a possibility to do so.

I dont like NO and it might just be NO spin, but what would we rather him say...? Portland sucks, no one wants to play here? I mean he’s gotta try to find an angle to convince someone to sign here when we dont have any cap space and were working with MLE’s.

I think Aminu is going to walk. The situation kind of reminds me of Ed Davis last year. I know the whole team sucked, but Davis really did not play well in the playoffs and his inability to be a threat from anywhere offensively was exposed. Many still figured he would be brought back.

Aminu is in a similar situation now. He had a solid season, but was exposed in the playoffs, mainly by Millsap in the Denver series. His inconsistent offensive contribution also reared its head again. I’m not even sure he should be brought back on the cheap anymore. I think it’s in the teams best interest to find a four with more size and/or a more versatile/consistent offensive skill set.

I’m also maintaining that Hood, Kanter, and Curry will all leave. Don’t think we’ll afford the first two, and Curry is going to get more minutes elsewhere.

So if this all plays out, Olshey will have four rotation players to replace. I know we have Simons to potentially replace Curry, but I’m not sure they go into next season depending on him. He’s still young and more importantly, inexperienced.

A few players from Euroleague that could be worth a look (Ok it will never happen but nevermind I have some free time).
-Vincent Poirier. 25 years 7ft, very mobile for his size, excellent rebounder and finisher. Serious step up this year in his 2nd Euroleague season.

-Vasilije Micic. 25 years 6'6 point guard. Made huge strides this year and led his team to the final 4 after 18 years. Great size and court vision.

-Will Clyburn, 29 years 6'7 wing. He was the f4 MVP this year with 2 huge games. Not a steady shooter but was 7/10 from deep in semifinal and final combined. Very athletic, great rebounder and can put the ball in the basket.

Ok probably nobody here knows them, but there are many players in Euroleague that would be solid role players for NBA teams, but just nobody takes the chance or they don't want to go back to start from scratch with a minimum contract and no role, but they certainly can hold their own in a league where the Plumlees and the Zellers are millionaires. Clyburn for example would be far superior to Aminu if both were playing in Euroleague as Aminu cannot put the ball on the floor and create his own shot. I once remember Anthony Parker and couldn't believe this guy was not playing in the NBA. He came over late, at 31 but still was a starter for 5-6 years after that.

If we could bring Matthews back, with Temple and mayyyybe Demare Caroll, that would be very good. Cheap wings with good Defense and can hit the 3. I think that could be realistic

If you think the Blazers season isn’t over, cool. I wish I had your optimism. But if you think it’s over, I think it’s time to move on and focus on the summer. All in all I think it was a great season, and has me a lot more optimistic about the direction of the team. I think we’re close. Outside of the Warriors, I think we can beat anyone. I think Durant will leave, and I think he will end up east. That only helps Portland. With that being said, let’s do this.

Here’s a template. Go.

Draft:

Free Agency:

Starters:

Second unit:

Reserves:

————-

Draft

Considering the cap situation, this will be Olsheys best opportunity to land a rotational player/starter.

To Boston:

Evan Turner
Meyers Leonard
#25

To Portland:

Gordon Hayward
#14

Portland takes on *roughly* $42M in this trade, which includes Hayward’s contract (2 years) and the total value of the 14th pick, minus the last year of Meyers and Turner. Hayward waives his trade kicker. Is Hayward a risk? Sure. But his playmaking would help take the pressure off Dame and CJ and we bet on him coming back stronger two years removed from his injury. We also don’t touch the core with this move, which is why I think its something Olshey would consider. Nevermind who his agent is.

Portland selects whoever the fuck at 14, too many names, but they should be able to land someone good. Personally, I would love Doumbouya. Whoever they pick, they probably won’t play though.

Free Agency

Rodney Hood (tax MLE)
Pau Gasol (vet min)
Kyle O’Quinn (vet min)

Kanter walks. Curry opts out and walks. Aminu is re-signed (he’s doing a good job suppressing his value, but that’s fine by me since I’d still take him as a backup.) Layman is retained.

Starters

Lillard
McCollum
Hayward
Collins (starts at center until Nurk returns)
Nurkic

Second Unit

Simons
Hood
Harkless
Aminu
Gasol

Reserves

O’Quinn
Layman
Trent
Labissiere
Draft pick
That's one hell of a dream trade.

How in the world do we land all three of those guys?...
