Your 2019-20 Blazers

Come on now. There is at least 10 teams AD would be traded to before the Blazers and there is no way, no way godfather, he would ever stay here. He needs to bright lights, sand, and all that shit. Hard to believe how shallow so many players are. Who on earth would choose to live in Florida? California, especially the bay area I can understand, but Miami??? Puh-lease

and there was absolutely no way, no way at all, that Paul George was going to stay in OKC...but he did. And there was no way that Kawhi would stay in Toronto, yet now, it's looking like Toronto is the favorite to keep him

Dame's window is about the same window left for the Warriors. Portland will have to take a risk to try and put themselves on the same level. They at least need to actually try to add a player at or above Dame in terms of talent, and AD is the next one available.

Those points are true, of course. He wants to be in LA, so let him go there and never get a ring. What is an offer Oshley could make to Griffin that is too good to refuse? CJ+Nurk+first round pick for AD and a crappy contract?

Looking through some of the 2016 contracts that are nearing their end this summer, it is absolutely insane that Olshey didn't throw in a single option in any of these deals for Turner/Crabbe/Harkless/Leonard. How nice would it be to have the chance to let Turner walk by not picking up his option? Or hell even a player option where we could renegotiate a longer contract for a lower $ amount would have added to our flexibility. Just really poor foresight.

Key options coming up:

Horford -- player
Whitesside -- player
Millsap -- team
Barnes -- player
Bazemore -- player
T. Johnson -- player
Dragic -- player
Valanciunas -- player
M. Williams -- player
D. Powell -- player

Most of your list doesn't matter because it would be dumb for just about any of those guys not to take their option (several of them have already).

CJ + Zach + 1st...but that still could be one the Pels refuse.

If I were Pels, and were convinced I couldn't trade Zion for an All-Star that could keep AD in town, then I would be looking for a bit now, but more for the future. Something like CJ, Collins, Simons, picks for AD. Gives them a good back court now and a good start on the Zion era.

Personally, I think the Pels would be stupid not to trade with the Knicks. You try and go get that #3 pick to pair Zion with Barrett so you start the new era in New Orleans.

What better way to blow it up?

Long term, I think they'd be WAY better off making that happen.

I wonder if the Spurs would trade Aldridge for expirings and a protected pick (or two).

Would you take him back if they were open to something like ET + Leonard/Harkless + 2019 1st + 2021 1st?

Only a moron wouldn’t.

If you think the Blazers season isn’t over, cool. I wish I had your optimism. But if you think it’s over, I think it’s time to move on and focus on the summer. All in all I think it was a great season, and has me a lot more optimistic about the direction of the team. I think we’re close. Outside of the Warriors, I think we can beat anyone. I think Durant will leave, and I think he will end up east. That only helps Portland. With that being said, let’s do this.

Here’s a template. Go.

Draft:

Free Agency:

Starters:

Second unit:

Reserves:

————-

Draft

Considering the cap situation, this will be Olsheys best opportunity to land a rotational player/starter.

To Boston:

Evan Turner
Meyers Leonard
#25

To Portland:

Gordon Hayward
#14

Portland takes on *roughly* $42M in this trade, which includes Hayward’s contract (2 years) and the total value of the 14th pick, minus the last year of Meyers and Turner. Hayward waives his trade kicker. Is Hayward a risk? Sure. But his playmaking would help take the pressure off Dame and CJ and we bet on him coming back stronger two years removed from his injury. We also don’t touch the core with this move, which is why I think its something Olshey would consider. Nevermind who his agent is.

Portland selects whoever the fuck at 14, too many names, but they should be able to land someone good. Personally, I would love Doumbouya. Whoever they pick, they probably won’t play though.

Free Agency

Rodney Hood (tax MLE)
Pau Gasol (vet min)
Kyle O’Quinn (vet min)

Kanter walks. Curry opts out and walks. Aminu is re-signed (he’s doing a good job suppressing his value, but that’s fine by me since I’d still take him as a backup.) Layman is retained.

Starters

Lillard
McCollum
Hayward
Collins (starts at center until Nurk returns)
Nurkic

Second Unit

Simons
Hood
Harkless
Aminu
Gasol

Reserves

O’Quinn
Layman
Trent
Labissiere
Draft pick
Now that the season is actually over, I've read this post and I like your ideas. Getting Hayward could totally take us over the top. This past season was up and down for him but it took PG two seasons to come back from his broken leg so we might get an All Star level Hayward next season or the season after that.

That Boston trade is ridiculously bad for them.

I'm gonna beat this drum til Neil hears it. Year after year, my pick for the draft is always the best and biggest athlete. Strong, physically imposing freaks win playoff games.

If we draft yet another diminutive SG or skinny center who can't jump or set screens, im gonna freak the fuck out.

Caleb Swanigan isn’t skinny.

Are you saying that Simons and Collins were bad picks? I thought we hit with both of them in the draft.

No, its not. Hayward is getting back ti his old self. Why would they dump him for nothing? Makes no sense.
With Kyrie all but gone, and with Tatum... they should just move on. He makes a lot of money and plays the same position of a guy who should be taking over the franchise.

Swanigan: waste of a pick. Grade D
Zach: Solid player, Grade B
Simons: Has not had the chance to prove himself. Have to score it as Grade C.

From the athletic. Sound familiar? Remember Ed Davis? This pretty much sums up why I’m leaning towards Aminu being let go.
Hopefully, sure he is a good 1on1 Defender, but Defense is much more than that. Good defensive Basketball-IQ is a huge part of Defense, his Basketball-IQ sucks, same goes for Harkless. How many teams we have seen both sleepwalking during the game? Or missing Rotation? Too many times. I wouldn't miss him, and Harkless too, they both are not starting caliber players on a contending team, i would even say that they are not even in the Playoff Rotation on a contending Team.
