And about our bench... We've had many injuries (CJ, Batum, Aldridge, Lopez, etc). So the normal rotation players are having to start. When we get healthy, then we will have more scorers off the bench.

I'm satisfied with our bench. Getting better could just mean, get healthy

Wrong... MM called them contenders when they were 9-3. Then he said Blazers can't be considered contenders with a 25th in the league bench. Houston, right now, back then and in between are the worst bench in the entire league. So MM's statement is contradictory when he claimed Houston was a contender with the worst bench in the league

Careful, Eric will jump on you. It was 8-3

Hey mags???? I looked back through that asinine thread of started a while back, and I never called Houston contenders. Where did I say that?

For benches to score a lot, they need to play a lot. Ours have played less than other teams until recently. Over the last couple of games we've seen improvement in scoring and MORE importantly defense. Freeland got 17 rebounds as a starter, when he's back on the bench..I call him improved. We got better, our bench players got better. It's simple. There's no doubt adding pieces improves a team MM, we agree about that. I think Kaman and Blake provided that this season.

Seriously MM, stop back peddling. You called them contenders and I will be pissed if you make me find it. You know damn well you said that!

Whatever the case, the jury is out on Houston and their new additions. Definitely improved, but will it be enough?

This! I would like to see a sample when all our starters are healthy. I'm sure our bench has been much improved. Adding other players might not be the best idea mid season.

Not back peddling. I looked through that thread and didn't see it. I honestly don't recall. Houston TRIED to improve their playoff chances because they have a good team. Portland should TRY and do the same

I don't disagree, but only if it's a perfect situation. I doubt Olshey will make a move unless it's going to make us immediately better. That means a heady, smart, team oriented player

Houston resigned McHale for 3 more years....that's regression

I don't disagree either. I'm not saying make a move to make a move, but there are vets out there to be had, and we should be more than willing to give up CJ, Barton, T-Rob, Leonar_, Freeland, Claver, Crabbe and picks to get one or two

I'm just worried about our chemistry. I trust Olshey. We have the second best record in the league right now. All the players on this roster all buy into Stotts system.

As long as it doesn't cost you anyone in the top 7, then it's an upgrade because he would be one of your top 7 players.

It might cost you in the cap plan - which they clearly have given the moves they have been doing. So - I suspect it is a bit more complicated than that...

If you think you have a chance to win this year, then play and manage for this year

This thinking has destroyed many a previous title run.

It's nearly always a fatally bad idea. Any vet that a team is willing to trade mid-season is a vet they couldn't find a way to dump over the summer.

I'm on board for the right guy. Gerald Green would be awesome. Jeff Green would be great. Wilson Chandler would be good as well.

Unfortunately, I do not think that any of the obvious targets (the Greens, Chandler) guarantee a title. That's why it is a bit more complicated.

Do I think an extra bench scorer will be great? Sure. Do I think they must acquire one at any cost(*)? No.

(*) For me, not giving the top 7 is not enough to ensure a trade. The cap plan is important going forward as well.

Let it bake then.

Drexler to Houston
Sheed to Pistons
Gasol to Lakers

It certainly doesn't always work out, but you have to try. Our bench is just not deep playoff run good at this point

All these other western teams moving while Olshey and the Blazers sit with a royal flush.

Stand pat, no moves necessary.

Well we are the 2nd best team in the league, only being .5 games from the best. What else would you call it? A full house?

A complete team? Our starters are incredible, and Blake and Kaman have been great. However, the rest are unproven young guys. That would be nice to upgrade.

In the playoffs, rotations are roughly 9 players. Currently, I think Kaman, Blake, Crabbe, Freeland and CJ cut it.

The extended bench is to make it through a grueling regular season. I think our current roster has enough players to get through the season with a top 3 seed.

We started out last year with the same record.

We're a move away from being real contenders.

Don't get complacent.

IMO we're a scoring wing off the bench away.

I agree. If you add that one guy like a Wilson Chandler, I think we're set.

I think they think they have everything they need right now. It's a players organization right now. I don't think they will mess with chemistry.
