Zach Collins' Present and Future Thoughts

So what is Zach’s position? It seemed like they envisioned him being a center when he was drafted. However he’s been playing exclusively at PF since being put into the rotation.

Most of us that were high on him around draft time said the team was crazy for projecting him as a center. He's a prototypical PF in every way, with the ability to slide to the 5 as needed.

It sort of fits with Olshey's haphazard approach to duplicated talent acquisition, though. He's great at identifying talent, but seems to rely on luck as to whether it'll fit.

Why the fuck we have two Zach Collins threads right Now?

I like Zach a lot but he does have a weakness that I'm pretty sure is going to get better and better. He fouls a lot.

That's not an issue with his ability though, more the problem with temper/control. Things like that almost always get better with experience, in all sports.

His work against the Warriors was excellent.

Defense first, good rebounder, tough as nails.

Sounds like Taj and Zach to me. Taj also has a very nice post game.

He said like Taj, but only taller and with a better shot. Those are two pretty significant differences.

Taken to the extreme, that's like saying Meyers Leonard is just like Tim Duncan without the high BBIQ and instincts.

Naw, Biebs has a better 3 ball.

I thought he was going to be a center only because he's 7' 0" tall.

Porzingis is 7'3" and he's a PF. Dirk is 7'. Pau has played both center and PF and he's 7'. Hell, Durant is 7' and he's a SF (I can't believe he's still listed as 6'9"). In today's game, 7' power forwards aren't all that rare. What position a 7-footer plays these days is dictated more by their skill set, body type and who their teammates are. I think Collins will eventually be able to play either position, but unless/until he bulks up, he's definitely a PF, for now.

He's only an inch taller than some of the all-time great PFs like Duncan, Dirk, Garnett, etc. His mobility and versatility makes him better suited to a tall PF than to a skinny C.

In all fairness there are some Power Forwards who are as tall or even taller which includes the best, the Unibrow, i.e. Anthony Davis.

Garnett is actually not a bad comp, physically speaking. I love that we have a traditionally built center in Nurkic and a versatile big like Collins. I don’t know why anyone would want only one of them. It allows us to match up with any kind of front court. Not many teams have that versatility.

He's going to be a taller weaker Mugsy Bogues.

So, the White Manute:

The pre-Wiz should have changed Manute's last name to Bollet, because he's shaped like rifle ammo.

I don't see Zach ever having an efficient back-to-the-basket game. My ideal for him would be Horace Grant. Another guy who had a great career rebounding, playing defense and hitting open jump shots.
