The draft is so unpredictable and the way the game changes and evolves is fascinating. Regardless of what the debates have been, I’d be excited to see him in a Blazer uniform regardless of where he’s taken.

He’s a massive human being who dominated in college. He’s known as a hard worker who has improved every year he’s played and grew up playing other sports, too. I’d be fascinated to see what he does in the league and the Blazers are the team I follow the most, so I’d get to see him on the regular.

We could regret it, he could end up being serviceable, he might even be great. I really don’t know, but I would enjoy watching it unfold for at least a year or two.

Not sure he’ll be any better than the last Purdue player we used a 1st round pick on

My vote vehemently against picking him applies largely to Clingan as well.

Just give me one player with big upside and 1 player that can contribute in near future. I still think we won’t keep both picks I expect this to be a busy trade day

I think the attitude on Edey is shifting to the positive. I remember when people "LOL"d" about even the idea of taking him with the Golden State Pick.

Polls are seldom an exact science. The options aren't jointly exhaustive, either.
You're right. There should definitely be an "I wouldn't use a lottery pick on him, but I wouldn't mind if the Blazers traded for a 3rd pick to get him" option.

All I'm saying is that I could just as easily vote item 2 or 3 and both would be accurate.

Imagine that all the other players you want at 14 are still available - that should help you pick.

I'd rather not spend either lottey pick on guys who I don't see contributing as anything more than backups.

I'll tell you what. If it's Edey at 14 or Clingan at 7... I sure as shit hope our front office has a trade in place to bring value back for Deandre if they use one of our two lotto picks on these guys. Deandre seems to need to feel wanted and drafting either of these guys would probably hurt Ayton's psyche. Also if we're going to go in on one of these two I want them to get a ton of PT.

Basically spending one of our top 2 picks on an old school C like we already have and then keeping our current old school C would frustrate me the same way that having Malcolm and Ant along with Scoot and Shae has frustrated me. It makes no fucking sense.

This is my sentiment exactly.

I'd rather swing and miss at guys who can be real contributors (considering the rest of the roster) over getting guys who would 1)not get enough minutes to develop or 2)not have higher ceilings than the guy ahead of them.

Seem like wasting picks.

I voted yes #14. But it depends on who we get at 7 and who else is available at #14

Hmm...interesting thought experiment. So in this scenario:
  • Sarr/ZR/Reed/Castle/Knecht/Clingan go 1-6
  • Blazers pick either Salaun/Holland/Williams/Buzelis at 7
  • Topic, Carter, Dillingham, Carrington, Walter and McCain all get selected in that 8-13 range
  • and somehow all 3 forwards the Blazers didn't pick at 7 are still magically available at 14
Yeah, in that scenario, I'm probably taking a second forward instead of Edey.

Give me Willaims and Salaun in that scenario all day. If we passed on either of them if they were available at 14 for Edey, I'd be pissed.

There’s nothing in this draft where I’ll be hugely disappointed or extremely excited about. That said for some reason I’m still excited for the draft

Lot of people going to have wild emotional swings when we draft him at 14.... and then trade him.

Cronin trade a player who hasn't been here long enough to want out? Unlikely.

I would be pissed. He’s a lumbering big man that can’t spread the floor. He’ll get switched on every time on defense and find himself in no man land.

There’s a reason why he’s a borderline lottery pick after such an illustrious college career. He doesn’t fit todays NBA where versatile wing players are paramount.

Cody Williams and Edey is how I want the draft to go
Yeah I'd be good with that. I still think if you take Edey you better have a trade on the table for Deandre that makes sense.

I find it bizarre that a team that has Ayton, Williams III, and Reath under contract is looking at drafting center prospects who will likely be far worse than the guys we already have. Can we not turn over a rock somewhere in the draft or trade market and find a power forward prospect?
