Zbo is gone but the Hoop Family still haunts Portland

this is the club downtown on 2nd that's been the "black" club for years right? they've changed names several times but the violence still remains.
:tsktsk:

Since violence has reigned on 2nd street for as long as Portland has existed, I doubt the club is any more to blame than the Blazers are.

Correct. A buddy from work was there that night. Said he didn't even know what was going on until he left a couple hours later.

Are you assuming he is broke because he's black?

Please don't try and make this racist with me.

No I'm surprised that he has enough money to hire Houze because shooting a bouncer in front of dozens of witnesses, a security camera and at least one police officer means he's a fucking idiot.

Saying those are or were black clubs is like saying Taco Bell sells Mexican food.

Downtown has always had 2 black clubs since I can remember (early 90s). That one on 2nd which was a mexican club for a short while in the late 90s/early 2000s and the one on 4th and Stark or Washington..its on one of the corners.

They have historically had shootings/gang problems.

this club isn't in the bar district, its all by itself, even before the Rock Bottom. pretty isolated.

At least Canzano doesn't (allegedly) sexually assault women like Zbo did. I sure miss Zach. What a great period to be a Blazer fan that was!

No, Canzano just wrote an article where he conveniently forgot to mention alleged more than once (but victim a good twenty times); always a shining example in fair and balanced journalism he has shown.

Greek Cusina has had much more of a violent history than the clubs you mention.

Also "historically" speaking the PPD would let everyone know where the real black clubs were at by tossing dead opossums in the doorways of them.

That never happened in downtown Portland.

FYI, just because a place plays Hip Hop and black people go there doesn't mean it's a black club. If you wanted to open a club in downtown and you wanted to attract the 20-30's something suburban white crowd you'd play Hip Hop music.

The places I'm thinking of were almost exclusively black clientele. What was the place on 4th called? Metropolis or something?

The one on 4th and Stark I think is the one where the Samoan bouncer killed a guy outfront by choking him out.

Black club means black promoters that target young black people. Not sure how often you go to clubs, but every city has spots like that.

IQ is not an accurate gauge of economic status, although idiocy is more prevalent among the wealthy than among the poor.

"Dirty" is the most ridiculous club I've ever been to. They have all islander security. I think you're right though. I think that's where Rod Strickland and Uncle Cliffy used to marinate at.

I grew up by some Tongan's. You definitely want to become friends with those guys and not enemies.

Great guys, just don't get on their bad side, or you'll have the whole fam damnily after you.
