The Knicks have a trade proposal on the table with the Memphis Grizzlies that would see Darko Milicic and Marko Jaric dealt to New York in exchange for Zach Randolph.

An executive with knowledge of the trade talks said Friday that Knicks president Donnie Walsh initiated the Randolph-to-Memphis talks with the Grizzlies recently and it's up to Walsh to sign off on the deal. But it appears Walsh has cooled to the idea of trading his player, the executive said.

A Knicks spokesman declined comment Friday.

Milicic is reportedly owed $14.5 million over the next two seasons, and Jaric will make $21.3 million the next three seasons. The Knicks want to trade Randoph because his contract runs through 2010-11. He will be paid nearly $48 million over those three seasons.

The move would help the Knicks with their salary cap. It has been widely perceived that their goal is get under the cap before the summer of 2010 so they can make a run at LeBron James and other high-profile free agents who will hit the market that offseason.

This would clearly be a move to shed cap space. It's interesting to see D'Antoni swapping pieces with his former assistant coach Iavoroni (now the Grizzlies headcoach) considering Darko struggled in the same system.

I think Jaric might be the only player to benefit from this trade. D'Antoni's offensive style was made for Jaric and Marko's ability to play multiple positions and shoot from the outside could earn him a lot of PT in New York next year.

Getting rid of the human slug ZBo is about a lot more than creating future cap space

I'm still trying to understand why anyone would want Zach Randolph on their team. He's a bum.

He can score, and the egos of coaches and/or GMs get in the way of common sense.

I do hope this trade goes through though, because the NY media is going to have a field day with Darko Milic. I give him a month in NY before he has a complete mental breakdown.

There would be enough photos and stories to run a blog called Marko&Darko in NY.

Marko Jaric is a real life man-whore and Darko Milic loves the clubbing scene.

I'm not a big advocate of Jaric and his contract, but he'll be much easier to move before 2010 than Randolph.

I'd welcome Darko simply because he expires before 2010 and will be our lone shot blocker. He also does get fiery at times: [video=youtube;ci3j363HWQM]

I'll go test the waters right now, since there's Z-Bo to Memphis thread on the front burner in that forum. ;)

Donnie Walsh confirms talking to Memphis.

Bulky power forward Zach Randolph apparently isn't a good fit for new coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo offense, so the Knicks are looking to make a deal.

The New York Daily News reports that Knicks president Donnie Walsh confirmed that the team has talked with the Memphis Grizzlies about a deal for Randolph.

Randolph averaged 17.6 points and 10.3 rebounds for the Knicks this past season.

A report in the Memphis Commercial Appeal this week said a deal with Memphis would involve Darko Milicic and Marko Jaric.

Looks like this might go down.
