I understand the impulse to be nice, but you're not being nice - you're dogging on a CBA player who isn't getting shit, because some guy was lucky enough to be drafted (and then extended) by Neil Olshey on a long shot bet that didn't pay off. If you care about merit at all, then you should be rooting for a DLeague player (Cliff or other) who deserves a shot based on their skill and hard work over Butters.

Again, I like him, he's a nice guy. I wouldn't even care about his salary if we weren't in cap hell. But, we are. His contract is guaranteed, and he and his contract need to move along. I wish him well, but I'm rooting for my team to win a championship, and right now he's an obstacle.

We did not cut Cliff to re-sign Meyers. Meyers didn't take his roster spot, or his salary. Both payers had roster spots going into last summer. Cliff's contract had a team option at $874,636 for the 2016-17 season. Meyers was a restricted free agent. The Blazers could have easily exercised Cliff's paltry option and then used Bird Rights to sign Meyer for any amount of their choosing up to the maximum salary. Declining Cliff's option had ZERO to do with Meyers Leonard or his contract.

Cliff's option was declined on July 8 to free up cap space to sign Festus Ezeli. So, if you want to blame someone for taking Cliff's roster spot, and his salary, blame Festus. Meyers was signed two days later using his Bird Rights.

Or better yet, blame Cliff. He had a year to convince the Blazers coaches and front office that we was worth his $874,636 team option and failed to do so. And, after being set free by the Blazers, during the biggest spending spree in league history, not one of the other 29 NBA teams deemed Cliff worthy of a minimum contract. So, now he's tearing it up in the D League, and while dozens of other D Leaguers have been called up, some even earning long term contracts, not Cliff. Maybe next year with the league expanding rosters to 17 players by adding two-2-way contracts per team, Cliff will get to be somebody's 17th man. And if he's not, it's NOT Meyers Leonard's fault. Cliff is not a victim here. He has been given shots by multiple NBA teams and, so far, has failed to stick.

Meyers Leonard has never gave me a reason to appreciate him.
When he sets a nice screen, makes a nice pass, doesn't pump fake I usually said something about it in game threads. "Good play Nards".
However for every good thing on the court he does, he makes just as many mistakes.
This isn't because the coaching staff hasn't "enabled" him or teammates haven't "encouraged" him. As they are on record of encouraging him..
Hell CJ even said once in a post game interview. "every time he passes up a shot I want to punch him in the face".
Kudo's for him playing through an injury. But I won't appreciate a player for their in game actions unless they give me a reason to.

There are times in my job that it's just as physical if not more physical than Nard's job. As working with animals can be a very physically demanding activity(at times).
I've had a rib dislocated for 2+ years now that effects my ability to breathe(normally at times) deeply.
Lets be real here Nard's is in a physical profession, but there are other professions that are far more physical and people still "work through the pain" because they won't get paid otherwise.
As I said in my last post, kudos for him playing through the injury. But lets not act like he's the only one whos possessed a physical job and gone to work hurt.

The previous argument, I didn't like like the comparison of Marbury to Dame and thought of it as a knock to Dame because he's better than him. I thought you were knocking Dame by comparing the two. Bones is hardly lacking intellectual ability, I had a great time talking with him during the small draft get together at BWW last year, and again at the Toronto skybox game.

Unlike you, Meyers has the option of not playing and still getting paid. That's one of the luxuries of NBA guaranteed contracts. Ezeli, Davis and Nurkic are all getting paid to not play. Meyers could easily say, I've got a fucked up back, I can't play, but he is choosing to play through pain to help his team.

OK, I'll try one last time, if you don't get it fine, it was only a subpoint anyway.

Let's say the league has 450 players, any you're the 451st. Congrats, you're next in line, but you're actually better than 30+ guys currently in the league. You're getting paid jack, while those 30 guys are getting paid millions, and in some cases tens of millions. Mr. 451 is being screwed by the GMs.

People (and especially GMs) "appreciating" those 30 are actually screwing you over. Of course, for you, life is about to get worse. Another draft is coming with more players entering the league. GMs are taking chances on a bunch of newbs, so now you're better than 40 players in the league, but it doesn't matter, you're screwed.

Cliff Alexander was intended to be an example name-placeholder for Mr. 451 - it's not about him at all.

Now, does this really apply to Biebs? Yes and No. Biebs isn't that bad in an absolute sense, but that doesn't matter. He's terrible relative to his salary, and THAT MATTERS. We have a delicate cap situation, and he's got to go the way of TRob. I'm totally OK with Biebs as a 3rd stringer for vet min, but that isn't the reality. Get rid of his salary and give 451 a chance at a supercheap salary.

This isn't the happy sunshine rainbow forum where everyone agrees with everyone else. We disagree. We argue. It happens. You and I have locked horns in the past too. I don't really care. I'll do battle with anyone on here. If you want to discuss the merits of the post, awesome, I'll do that.
